Ideas for getting mucus Out

Posted by meleana808 @meleana808, Jun 4 12:28pm

Had my CT scan yesterday there has been an increase in mucus compared to 6months ago. I also been diagnosed with pseudomonosis. (Which I inhaled tobramycin for about 16mo til I started getting increased ringing in my ears). Dr stopped toby with nothing to replace it, said there was nothing else.
Drs suggestions continue ACTS, with albuterol inhaler, nebulizing albuterol & 5 or 7% saline and use your vest. Previously within this routine still did not produce any sputum
Any other suggestions on loosening and espelling this mucus? I have read mullein tea or a form of mucinex might help.
Ty for sharing your experiences and knowledge

My PCP recommended using Guaifenesin along with my regular nebulizer, HUFF coughing, drinking lots a water( not too much) and using my Afflovest routine. It is ONLY for thinning mucus. There are no cough suppressant properties - just a plain mucolytic

If you’re not aware of the postural drainage techniques that work with the huff cough, there are videos on YouTube and posts on this Mayo discussion group that will give you some guidance.

Glad to hear the Giyosk is working for you. I know many people are using the Arobeka, this appears to be the same type as an air physio. I believe I have the same one as my pulmonologist advised to just order a PEP device from Amazon.

Thank you all for sharing experiences trying to expel mucus. I have used several devices including the Arobeka. I find it irritates my lungs causing inflammation. This causes more issues. I have found a few exercises (quite by accident) that work well for me. I will try to briefly describe.
1. Lie on flat surface with a pillow under the back making an arch causing lungs and head to be downward. Do slow deep breath until mucus begins to move and cough up.
2. Lie flat and pull knees to chest and slowly roll side to side doing deep breathing. If able extend legs toward head while lying on back.
These tow excersized have worked for me since my first diagnosis of MAC back in 2017. Unfortunately I was MAC for 4.5 yrs and now it is back. It is a blessing I can be treated again!
