I was on Advair for 20 yrs and it saved my life
Now per my health ins carrier they no longer support Advair so my doctor has been pushing other inhalers Tried Wixela terrible was congested all the time, trying Breyna now semi good. What experiences have you all had with your drug of choice that gave you the best life and living with asthma (I was born w/it ) and all these Generic drugs now ???

My husband and I had the same results with Wixela. I was on advair for years and I was good on it.
Hi. While Advair was not good for me, I know many mds are giving Breo as a similar medication inhaler. It is once a day. I am not good with these inhalers (Breo gave me visual changes, which reversed). I am life-long asthmatic and am steroid dependent. Dupixent injection has been great (every other week - self inject). I was on Xolair about 15 years before it stopped working. If you have an allergy to milk - stay away from Trelogy inhaler. I do nebulizers - one which is Arformoterol tartrate (Brovana). It is not a steroid, but is a long acting form of albuterol. Hope this helps.

1 ReactionI switched from Advair to Trelegy Ellipta and it worked okay for me. 20 years ago, my Pulmonologist at NJH prescribed Montelukast and it was like a miracle drug, but it made me so nauseated that I could no longer take it. About a month ago, I tried it again and started taking at night and so far so good. Now, I am totally off of daily inhalants and use Airsupra for rescue but only need it if allergens/pollutants are high.
Hi, @tully22026 - wondering if you've found an alternative to fluticasone/salmeterol (Advair) that works for you?
@lisalucier
I am on Breyna now- its okay but still I have shortness of breath doing physical activity . Advair was the best for physical activity as it allowed me to do hiking, biking and other extensive physical activity. Life is changing as I get older as I am now 70 and I was born with Asthma- the drugs today are so amazing compared to when I was a child. Still when you find a drug that works for you . you just want to stick with it if you have no issues but insurance companies are always looking for the cost cutting drugs available not the quality of life for their clients Thank you
@tully22026 - that is rough when your insurance no longer supports a medication that has really helped you. I've seen that personally over the years with my asthma and allergy medications, and it's frustrating trying to find something that works as well and that also makes sense financially.
I'm not a medical professional, but I have seen with my son who has exercise-induced asthma that using Albuterol before his swim team practice or meets, or before a hike, has helped him. Does this work for you for physical activity?
