Is it HCM? Need answers

Posted by 33061982 @33061982, Sep 19, 2018

These are my results from my echo. Mild dysfunction, trace of regurgitation and pulmonic insufficiency, right ventricular enlargement, slight left ventricular posterior wall hypertrophy with hyperkinetic appearing, pulmonary arterial pressure of 18.6 mmhg can anybody tell me what dis means???

@33061982 Now, don't get to excited. Just that a high percentage of Amyloidosis folks, especially with LiteChain disorder, show most of these signs. I would not say you have AL, but I have Gelsolin, part of that, and I have this set, especially the LV posterior wall hypertrophy. Just make sure you do the SERUM sFLC(c) Serum Free Lite chain assay, and that the test is analyzed by a top lab, such as ARUP, Quant, Boston, etc. It really looks like a misfolded protein issue to me. Also, have your heart and lungs checked for refractile protein fibrils in the walls. httjps://bit.Ly/1w7j4j8 'Amyloid and Old Karl'

Hello @33061982 and welcome to Mayo Connect.

I see that this is your first post and I'm glad that you have posted your concerns about your recent Echo. I can certainly understand your concern. The report does list a lot of different things and they are not easy to understand. When you doctor ordered this Echo was it because you were having symptoms of heart problem (swelling of hands or feet, chest pain, rapid heart rate, etc.)? If so, would you care to share what those symptoms are?

As you probably know, Mayo Connect is not a place where we can interpret test results, make diagnoses nor can we give medical advice. We can only share our personal experiences and offer encouragement and suggestions.

Therefore, I would encourage you to call the doctor's office and ask for an appointment where either the doctor, or a Physician's Assistant or a Registered Nurse can sit down with you and explain what all these terms mean. Do you have a follow up appointment scheduled to discuss the results?

Hi, I found out my late brother had HCM so I have a 50% chance of also having it, since I saw the Genetic people who explained this I have been having slight chest pains, like a muscle pain. I am booked into the hospital next week for an ECG and Echo cardiogram so as yet I haven't been diagnosed with anything, I did used to have palpitations but the doctors said it was anxiety and proscribed Propanalol which I understand is also used for HCM?

Any advise please?

Thanks.

Hello,
I have lived with HCM for over 40 years now. When I first was diagnosed with the disease, I was prescribed Propanolol (Inderal) – which is a Beta Blocker and helps control heart rhythm. I was on that drug for about 8 years until a new drug, Verapamil was released. For the past 35 years, I have been prescribed Verapamil – which is a Calcium Channel Blocker and relaxes blood vessels so blood can flow more freely and reduce the effort needed by the heart. More recently I have also been prescribed Metropolol, which is a different type of Beta Blocker that helps with chest pains.
I wish you the best.

@conbrue, could you share a few details? Has the Propranolol helped with the palpitations? May I ask if you found out more information after the ECG/Echo?
