I have leakage around the sides of my incontinence pads .6

Posted by rruben02 @rruben02, 6 days ago

I am 74 and quite active. I have had surgery, RT after recurrence and then more Rt and hormonal therapy after spread. The Teena incontinence pads that I use leak around the sides when i exercise or lift the grandkids. And now i
am staining chairs when i sit without even knowing. The adhesive is not good and they tend to crumple up.
Is there a better pad or will pull ups be better?

I used Tena & found them ok.
But I also leaked out the sides & onto my trousers sometimes.
Not fun.

The key I found was direction.
If "it's" pointing left or right, it's gonna pee out the sides.
Try to be mindful of the direction & discreetly adjust yourself to point up or down.
The things we have to learn....

Thanks Peter,
No fun at all!
Difficult to adjust the position with the constantly changing positions when lifting the grandkids. Also I feel like the bottom does not stay in place because the edges have no adhesive and it just crumples inwards significantly decreasing the ability to add any protection at all!

Hi,
I use the Depends max coverage pads that are one step down from the overnight. Work a lot better than the Depends shields, they are wider with just a little more absorbent material. I also put two pieces of Scotch brand permanent clear double sided tape on each wing to keep the wings in place.

I started wearing a condom catheter every day. Not ideal but no leaks and I can do what I want as long as I wear long pants.

I’ve found just about every pad leaks, if the circumstances are right. At night, watching TV, I tend to curl up a bit and sit on my hip, if that makes sense, and I found out right quick that that’s a way to defeat any pad on the market, as it positions Mr. Drippy perpendicular to the pad, so now I make sure to get comfortable, then reach in there and put him back pointing down.

@rruben02 - you may want to look into some of the washable incontinence briefs out there. Menvault is one brand. I personally didn’t care for them, but others like them. They do have extra absorbency around the leg openings. There are also other brands as well.

I feel your frustration, Peter. I use the Top Care underwear for men, and yes, even those leak a little, and I have to go home, take a shower, and put on a new one. It's so embarrassing. It can be better if you position your thing either straight ahead or up and straight. You mentioned that you're an active adult and love picking up your grandkids. My doctor says to make sure that you do your Kegel exercises every day. This will help you leak less and less until soon you will have control and no more leaks. I do my Kegel exercises throughout the day.

I have been dealing with incontinence issues since my RP in 2018 and Salvage Radiation in 2022. It is more expensive, but I have been using Depend Underwear and Guard Pads and only have occasional leakage if I am doing something that is very strenuous. I weigh my pads and average about 100 grams of urine. Despite bad reviews I find the new Depend Pads to be more effective but it may be the use of Depend Underwear with the Pads makes them more effective.

Thanks for the response. This seems interesting. Are depends better than Teena?

@bunch4562
I can hold my urine when trying to. But with rapid banding and lifting the leakage just happens and i do 10 minutes of kegels daily while doing squats, lunges and up and downs on chairs.
The major problem is just that the bottom of the Teenas just scrunch up since there is no adhesive on the edges and then there is essentially no protection.

I am just wondering if you all are wearing perhaps loose fitting underwear ? My husband never leaked but his briefs were really snug (on purpose) . If you keep the "package" snug it does not move anywhere. Try buying underwear that is cotton /spandex combo and that fits correctly (snugly). Just a thought .
