I have leakage around the sides of my incontinence pads .6

Posted by rruben02 @rruben02, 6 days ago

I am 74 and quite active. I have had surgery, RT after recurrence and then more Rt and hormonal therapy after spread. The Teena incontinence pads that I use leak around the sides when i exercise or lift the grandkids. And now i
am staining chairs when i sit without even knowing. The adhesive is not good and they tend to crumple up.
Is there a better pad or will pull ups be better?

I thought that tight fitting boxers were better than tight fitting briefs

@rruben02 - traditional boxers are probably your worst choice for underpants with a pad. I’m fairly sure the instructions on the various pads for sale even say somewhere on there that they don’t work with traditional boxers.

I wear boxer-briefs, and those work fairly well for everyday wear with a pad or shield. I do find snug provides more protection, but at a cost of comfort. Unfortunately, it’s a trade-off, AFAIC.

Thanks. My mistake. I use boxer briefs that are quite snug. Today i tried two overlapping pads, drank less water and tea and urinated more frequently just to keep
My bladder less full and actually did better. We will see if it continues.

I've had the same issue with pads. I started wearing a Depend brief as my daily underwear, just as extra insurance behind and around the pad. I am 19 months post-surgery and have only had one or two times when I leaked enough to get to my pants. Of course, we are all different with different treatment outcomes, but that has worked for me. Good luck to you.

I am 73 and had an RP 5 years ago. Leakage got a lot worse after RT in 2023. I have posted before but a book that is comprehensive about improving incontinence is one written by a very experienced pelvic floor specialist. Leakage is multifactorial; not just kegels. "Life After Prostatectomy" by Vanita Gagliani available on Amazon. It helped me.

Hi,
I use the Depends max coverage pads that are one step down from the overnight. Work a lot better than the Depends shields, they are wider with just a little more absorbent material. I also put two pieces of Scotch brand permanent clear double sided tape on each wing to keep the wings in place.

@clevelandguy
Wow,
The tape idea may well be the answer!

I use Northshore DoubleStop Male Guard and they work well.

@rruben02
Been using the Scotch brand permanent double sided clear tape for a few years now, works great. The temporary adhesive version does not work as well.

Thanks for the response. This seems interesting. Are depends better than Teena?

@rruben02 Remember the Camel cigarettes tv commercial? “I’d walk a mile for my Camels”.
I’d walk a mile for my Tena Max absorbency pads.

Full disclosure: I use a clamp in conjunction with pads so maybe I leaking less, but I still leak enough to fill up one pad a day. Also maybe the clamp keeps me pointing down and stops it from moving from side to side. 🤷‍♂️

FYI: Hitch snug boxer briefs all the way up so it’s snug against the body.

@rruben02 I'm doing Pelvic Floor Therapy right now and the therapist wants me to drink MORE water, not less. Also, they want me to urinate less often. Why?

Because we are training our bladders in bad habits. A bladder will shrink (kind of like a stomach over time if you eat less and less food). When you're bladder shrinks from drinking less fluids, than it can hold less and you have to go more often.

Going more often just reinforces the cycle.

I have a fix for the leak problem that works 100 percent...posting a new answer below.
