Sub-solid nodule grew from 3.5 to 8 in a year: Wait for scan?

Posted by dalelieberman3 @dalelieberman3, May 5 11:45am

8mm sub solid nodule grew from 3-5 to 8 in a year. Pet scan had iffy reports. Should I wait 3 mths for another scan?
It’s in a difficult area to get to in my lung. But waiting has me anxious.
Thoughts?

I went for 2nd option at UPenn . Dr. Also can do biopsy because of difficult location to get too.
He said, lung surgery, lobectomy, 80% cancer based on patterns, growth, etc. waiting to hear from thorasic surgeon, I am terrified! Can’t find a way not to think 24/7. All so new.

I had something similar. Local Radiologist said he could not do needle biopsy because of location and risk and not being able to get sufficient sample. I went to Mayo Clinic and they said 80% cancer and scheduled me for Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery with bronchoscopy and wedge resection (did not take the whole lobe). It was cancer stage 1b (because of size). Typically, only 1 night in hospital. It was not that difficult or painful (they do want you to cough so that is sensitive!). I was driving my car a week later.

Thank you for telling me! I’m glad you’re doing well. It gives me hope.
I meet with Thorasic surgeon Wed June 11th. After that I’ll know when surgery will be.
As always, prayers to all on this group.

My appt with thoracic surgeon is wed june 11th to explain surgery. Now a nodule showed up on my thyroid, told to see endocrinologist specialist.
I am so terrified of the lobectomy, surviving it, getting all the cancer.
I don’t know what to do with myself. I act strong with my husband & kids, but sometimes the terror is overwhelming.

Hello Dale- The closer the time gets for surgery, the more you will think about it and be scared. That’s normal. I know I thought all the same things. I also put up a strong front for my husband and kids, while inside the thoughts and fears were like a pinball machine playing in my head! I just kept thinking that God has his plan and it will be what it will be. We prepare for the worst but hope for the best. How was the nodule on your thyroid found? Do you have hypo/hyper thyroid? I ask, because my husband has hypo thyroid and a screening said it found a nodule (scared the heck out of him) and it ended up just being a rough part of his thyroid, not a nodule and not a concern. I pray yours may be the same.
I pray that all will turn out well for you and you will be done with this cancer journey very soon. Stay strong, but talk to your family about your fears and concerns. Let them help you. God Bless you, and heal you!❤️

Hi, they found the thyroid nodule from cat scan & pet scan for lung nodule! Pulmonologist said see an endocrinologist specialist, she can’t interpret the report. I don’t have a hyper thyroid.
Thank you, your response & words mean so much to me.
I’ll take the prayers & wish you, your husband, & all in this group strength, prayers & healing.
Best, Dale

Thinking of you Dale, so many of us have been where you are now and we have come thru the worry , the mixed emotions and surgery and so will you. If your strength fails you at times that's OK, let the tears flow or anger out ,you are human after all and we need to release our fears sometimes. The very best wishes to you . Glor

Hi, thanks so much for checking. So when he first came in he said I’m not so sure this is cancer. Then sent me down for another scan. When he saw that one, he said he agrees that could be. He said the scan was much clearer in penn’s department vs. cooper hospital. What was so confusing is that the interventional pulmonologist that referred me to him saw the first scan & was 80% sure of cancer.
Surgeon then said it’s reasonable to do surgery now or wait till the fall. Who would want to wait 3 more mths with cancer probably growing. So surgery is scheduled for July 28th. Now I have many tests & appts. The waiting is such a head trip.
Thanks so much for checking on me, from being in this group you know how very much that means!
Dale
PS. I have a nodule on my thyroid that has grown. Seeing specialist next week for that….
