Do I need surgery with a 4.5 cm AAA ANEURYSM

MY NAME IS THOMAS

Thomas, a 4.5 cm abdominal aortic aneurysm usually does not require surgery right now. Surgery is typically recommended once it reaches about 5.5 cm in men, grows quickly, or causes symptoms. At 4.5 cm, most patients are managed with regular imaging, blood pressure control, and avoiding heavy straining.

I’ve lived through a major aortic emergency myself, and the key is this: knowing about it early puts you in a strong position to stay safe and ahead of it. Keep up with surveillance and stay closely connected with your vascular doctor.

May I ask what blood pressure meds you were/are on? Having a problem with BP control right now. I have been on Valsoran 180 now they added 5 mg of amilidipine and finally down to 120"s systolic.

I am on 2 for a long time, I have AFIB since 2016.

A....DILTIAZEM HCI 240
B.....BISOPROLOL FUMRATE 5mg (one in morning only)

Never have had blood pressure issues.

May i ask why surgery 4.5 and the marker is 5.5 ?

Cheers

@dalehopper5653 When to have surgery is a tradeoff between the risk of the aneurysm dissecting and the risks of open heart surgery. Many thoracic surgeons use 5.5 cm as the size to do surgery, but at some high volume surgery centers they use 5.0 cm. As Moonboy notes there are also other factors your surgeon takes into consideration to determine when to do surgery. If you are concerned about what size to have surgery you may want to get a second opinion.
