I had gastric bypass 21 years ago. I’m interested to see if anyone has
Hi. New to the community. I had gastric bypass surgery 21 years ago. I’m a 62f and have struggled with weight as well as other mental and physical issues. After the bypass I lost 100 pounds before the first year. Kept weight at a good range for a few years. I lost my second son in 2013. I can’t remember if that is when the gaining started. I gained 60-70 pounds back. I for years after the gain I maintained a weight for a good few years. The same number within 2-3 lbs. A few years ago I randomly started vomiting bile. Only bile and a great amount at a time. Went to the er countless times because I couldn’t stop vomiting or drink and keep liquids down. This year, in February I had one of these episodes that lasted about 30 hours. I lost 10 pounds in just that time. I assumed it was water weight and after that passed I would gain back to my previous weight. Only I didn’t. I without any diet changes and I’m sedentary, have recently like in a week lost another 4 lbs. 14 in total in a little over 6 months. Nobody seems to think anything of it. I did have an endoscopy 2 days ago and haven’t gotten results yet but my new gastroenterologist didn’t sound like she was concerned about anything… I’m just reaching out to see if there’s anyone that can relate
Thanks

Have they checked your gallbladder, I had very similar experience. My Surg was 2002. This past year tough. My gallbladder was loaded with stones leaking into bile duck. In June I had a large surgery remove gallbladder and retrieve stones. Repair hiatal and ventral hernias. Doing much better. I lost over 155lbs kept off

Welcome to Mayo Connect. I am glad you had an endoscopy. When I have had problems, that is usually the first thing they check. I also like @gofishto's suggestion to ask about the gallbladder. I have problems with GERD also, which is very tied to what I eat and if I lay down shortly after eating. When you meet with a
GI specialist or primary about EGD results, ask what else needs to be checked.
Have they done a CT scan of your abdomen?
I have gets for close to 30years, I also a long Barrett’s disease my gastrointestinal dr knew I had hiatal hernia. I went for ct scan before surgery that’s when they found my gallbladder was filled with stones had to come out. After surgery I had mild gastroparesis. Had to have ct scan again. Also is slowly retro normal. I will have to stay on Voquenza gerd for life.
I can relate very much I had my gastric sleeve 13 years ago the first surgery did not go well lots of complications I had revision to the roux-en-y in 2015. I still have many issues with vomiting many test many meds i use zofran on a regular basis its gets bad i know when you have nothing more than bile left I usually follow what my gastroenterologist says go back on liquids and soft foodss to give your stomach a break hopefully your endoscopy can show what’s wrong it’s frustrating when they don’t care do they think we don’t like to eat that’s how and family genes I wasn’t in the situation because I don’t like food lol. Sorry about all of your loss I can understand that too it was the reason I had surgery my sisters passed away 3 months apart from heart attacks 13 years ago losses my parents since life loves throwing difficulty our way I’m 46 I have lost over 200 lbs I like to say 280 I gained 80 back on a feeding tube before my revision surgery good luck I hope they get you figured out
