@gerberdaisy19 not sure who you were addressing but between me, my daughter and my 95 year old mother we have varied experiences with vertigo. I have had at least 3 kinds!

In our experience the best provider for this is a PT with expertise in vertigo. If BPPV then eye movements on a screen will diagnose and they can do and teach maneuvers to cure it (I found some online!).

If vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis, there are exercises too, for instance staring at an "x" on the wall and moving head back and forth, or using two cards and looking up and down, back and forth and diagonally between them.

Cervical vertigo is maybe not recognized by I find that Ben Gay and BioFreeze on my neck helps with that, don't know why.

For central vertigo (brain-based) I have found I have to wait for it to pass and walking straight sometimes helps. That is one of my diagnostic codes as well as "vestibular migraine" which is the same thing- brain-based.

In response to your Vertigo. I just completed 8 miserable months of vertigo, dizzy episodes (sometimes 3-4 times a day), unsteady gait. Went to Neuro - wanted to start with an anti-depressant....(depressed because of dizziness, NOT dizzy 'cause I'm depressed. Went to well trained ENT, he started with Diagnosis of Meniere's (sp?), when that is a diagnosis of exclusion. Wanted to inject steroids in my ear. I declined. Drilled down on the issue myself. It started in November2023 so looked at what changed at that time. Long story short, I was placed on Eliquis instead of the warfarin I had been on for years. Did some research which actually addressed the relationship between the two drugs. Asked to be taken off Eliquis and placed back on warfarin on 8/8/2023. Haven't been dizzy since. Moral of story-- don't discount the physician/pharmacist (and your research) looking at your medication regime! Wasted 8 months of my life!

Right up until you mentioned Eliquis that could’ve been me writing that! Wow!

Oops sorry, Windyshores, I was addressing you. Yeah I have vestibular migraines that they thought was Meniere’s. Still working on it
My PT experiences weren’t the best but the timing was also not good. Worth another look (when I can actually get there!)

@gerberdaisy19 For my mother, I found a PT who was truly expert with vertigo. He came to her apartment. Of course for myself I went to a regular PT who had the equipment to diagnose BPPV but didn't know much about the other forms of vertigo.

I have been diagnosed with vestibular migraine by neuro and Mass. Eye and Ear ER. But I sometimes wonder if that is a catchall diagnosis for vertigo that isn't explained. For me that does not involve room spinning but a failure to know where I am in space!

Another kind of vertigo I forgot: cologne from a roommate set off the room spinning with continuous vomiting, went to ER.

I know there is a difference between vertigo and dizziness but I never remember what it is 🙂

I worked at UMass for 5 years! I’m assuming “mass” refers to Massachusetts but ha, that could be way off.
Anyway, yeah I need to try again. For me, it’s not BPPV. I’m so sorry your mom gets it too!
Hmm that’s interesting that it was at an ER!
Yeah vertigo is quite different from dizziness. With mine, I feel like I’m falling off the bed or chair when I’m not moving.

The ER’s here don’t do anything for vertigo alone- they’ll offer meclazine (sp?) but that doesn’t work. I did just find a medical site that mentions other drugs that they’re trying
We’re thinking once the migraines are not so out of hand, the vertigo will follow but who knows
We hijacked this thread! Apologies to the OP
