I have only been diagnosed 6 months but had bad symptoms for 5 years...I have had a bad flare and my fibromyalgia drugs that I am on now is low dose, 50 mg pregabalin and 40 mg amtripuline, 1 pregabalin morning,1 evening and 40mg amtripuline in the evening.I am walking through pain but get very stiff. I also have a slipped disc in my back so it's difficult at the mo. I would suggest trial and error regarding medication. I have been through the whole lot it seems as I am intolerant get bad side effects. It's not perfect but I am just about ok at the mo balance between how much pain can deal with and side effects. My pain consultant who diagnosed me said try and go without the meds and pace myself but it's a joke, I need the drugs for now. The chronic fatigue comes with fibromyalgia but I had a rare bit of energy today so made the most of it. Please don't give up, it's really hard staying positive but I if we let this illness beat us ......We need to be kind to ourselves and rest up when our bodies say no....

Search in this support group for info on LDN low-dose Naltrexone, which helped me immensely. It's safe and had no bad side effects for me, except for vivid dreams (not nightmares tho). Drawbacks are that you must get your prescription filled at a compounding pharmacy, it's not covered by insurance, and it takes a few months to work up to the maintenance dose (usually 4.5mg/day) and then can take a couple months to notice benefits. Also, I read that it doesn't benefit everyone. My cost is $115 for a 90 day supply.
Here's one article on it, there's any more on-line: https://www.verywellhealth.com/low-dose-naltrexone-ldn-for-fibromyalgia-cfs-716070

@daisy17 My doctor gave me a great work-a-round for the LDN. She proscibed me the standard 50mg Naltrexone pills and has be grinding 1 tablet a week into 50ml of water. I refridgerate it and take 4.5 ml nightly. The 50mg pills are much less expensive than getting 4.5 mg pills and can be filled at any pharmacy.

My pain issues are all repetitive stress so I have to use Nortriptyline, Topiramaye for BMS and Tarsal Tunnel, Monthly Emgality injection for migraines, sm amount of xanex for sleep prn. Also Fioricet and Soma but only occasionally. We each have to do what we must do!!

@ellenblythe Makes me remember a side effect I had with Amitriptyline. A wonderful neurologist diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia after ruling out MS, etc. by giving me amitriptyline. Which is a tricyclic in same class as nortriptyline. It worked immediately and was so grateful. It made me tired/sleepy but it helped the pain . I had to have a pre-op due to eye surgery (not related to fibromyalgia) and when doctor did a EKG, the doctor called me and told me to stop the Amitriptyline immediately as test showed “QT prolongation”, that could be side effect of the Amitriptyline and could be fatal. It could also be a condition you are born. I was shocked and scared. I usually tolerate most drugs without serious side effects. Doctor changed it and retested and the QT prolongation was gone. I was given a different medication for the fibromyalgia. Just a heads up.
