Hysterectomy 4 months after FIGO1 Endometrial Cancer Diagnosis

Posted by fos54235 @fos54235, Apr 22 7:46pm

I am 61. Had spotting on 2/4/25. Saw GP on 2/5/25 for PAP. Transvaginal ultrasound results 1.6 CM thickness the following week. D&C on 3/4/25. Pathology report received following week Endometrial cancer FIGO 1. There is only one Gynecological Oncologist in my area & had to wait 3 was for appt. CAT scan & EKG on 4/22/25. Found out today my hysterectomy is not scheduled until 7/10/25. Waiting 4 months for surgery after the pathology report seems too long to me. I am going to try to get in another gynecological oncologists practice 1 hour from my home for 2nd opinion & hopefully get surgery sooner. What are your thoughts on a 4 month wait?

I had mine on day 32 after the D&C. They said that was normal; some ladies get in faster, although they want reasonable time after D&C. I was also FIGO grade 1 with no genetic marker abnormalities. They should want to get the staging done sooner, in my opinion and experience.

Do you know what kind of endometrial cancer you were diagnosed with? That should be in your pathology report. Here is a description of the different kinds of endometrial cancer.

I was diagnosed with endometroid adenocarcinoma, FIGO Grade 1 in late July, 2019, saw the gynecological oncologist a week later and had my hysterectomy one week after that. I realize that my surgery happened much faster than many others report here on Mayo Clinic. I think a 4 month wait is way too long for cancer treatment. In your place I would want another opinion and try to get surgery moved up much closer in time.

When do you think you will call and arrange for a second opinion?

Hello. I was diagnosed on March 14 and my surgery isn’t until May 19. I felt the same way as you. I’m having a laparoscopic robotic hysterectomy. She offered to let a colleague do it sooner but I didn’t want that or she could’ve done open and I didn’t want that either. She assured me she thought it was fine to wait.

for me it took 12 weeks from 1st symptom to surgery

I was diagnosed Dec 8th and had the hysterectomy Jan 19th. Be well, I know this is hard but it's amazing what you can do when you need to!

@fos54235, I thought I'd check in. How are you doing? Did you get a second opinion?

Can’t get in for 2nd opinion until June 30th. Had CAT scan 4/22/25. Radiologist recommended a follow up in 3 months for a mildly enlarged paratracheal lymph node otherwise no metastasis disease. Notes mild endometrial thickening with no adnexal lesion. Oncologist wants a PET though. Schedule for 5/15/25

I had PET on 5/16. Results said extensive uterine uptake SUV 20 compatible with endometrial carcinoma. No convincing PET scan evidence of metastatic lymphadenopathy or distant metastatic disease other than above. Had mild uptakes in lymph node in submandibular gland & left inguinal lymph node both more likely reactive or physiologic than metastatic. This is different than no evidence from what I’ve read. Still waiting for call back from oncologist to schedule hysterectomy. Getting more impatient each day.

@fos54235 I really understand with these results and what you have already experienced why you feel impatient. If I were in your place I would call the oncologist’s office and ask when your surgery will be scheduled. It’s so difficult to wait and wonder when that call back will happen. Do you think you might call tomorrow and ask?
