How to stay disciplined while quit smoking cigarettes?

Posted by kilahamazingly1 @kilahamazingly1, 2 days ago

I was cigarette free for 3 weeks then i hit a set back. Not sure if it the trigger was kids or life in general. What are some replacements. Besides hobbies and long walks?

I was a heavy, hard-core cigarette smoker for 33 years. This July will be 8 years cigarette free, Praise God 🙌 the thing that helped me when I felt like I wanted to chew a mouthful of nails was Wellbutrin. It really helped me hang on so to speak. My husband still smokes and everyone I know still tells me to this day they have no idea how I did it with him still smoking. The Wellbutrin helped me because it definitely felt like I was losing/lost my best friend. Two Wellbutrin a day. One in the AM and 1 in the evening. It's a miracle from God I was able to quit. The Wellbutrin was a huge help 🙏

Hello @kilahamazingly1, it looks like this is your first post here on Connect, so Welcome!
I have posted a couple of links below that you. may find helpful.
Every one of us is different, and what works for one person, may not work for you.
I have mentioned several times in the "Smoking Section" here on Connect, that what helped me tremendously was the Allan Carr book, Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking.
It gave me the inside look of the psychology of addiction, because smoking is surely and addiction.
Armed with the inside knowledge of how these filthy little liars worked, I then prepared for battle against them.
It was not easy.
No.
It was awful!! I actually had panic-like attacks before I quit, just knowing that the "Quit Date" was coming up.
How could I ever stop, I wondered?
No one answer, but a combination of things.
The Allen Carr book, Dollar Store cinnamon candies, and my sock drawer and pantry and linen closet!
The book gave me head knowledge.
The cinnamon candies gave me a hot candy to occupy my mouth in place a sucking on a cigarette.
The linen closet, sock drawer and pantry gave me something to do to allow the terrible cravings to pass.
Trust me...those cravings do pass. They don't go on forever! Thank God!
It's a process, and the BEST WAY to QUIT SMOKING is WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU!!!
Sorry, I don't mean to yell...but it's true. Whatever works for you.
I have been smoke-free since January 8, 2018 and am ever so grateful I do not smoke anymore.
Do I still have cravings even now? Oh, yes! But I refuse to feel like a loser by smoking again.
In this situation being a quitter is the best thing you can do for you.
