Hot Flashes 4 Years Post Single Lupron Inj

Posted by maxvt @maxvt, 1 day ago

I was diagnosed 3/22 and had 1 3-mo Lupron shot 4/22 and RALP 8/22; had hot flashes then that were lessened with 37.5 mg Venlafaxine 2x daily. Having more killer “Thermodynamic Disfunction” episodes (Endochronologists don’t treat hot flashes, but do work with hormone imbalances resulting in “TD”) now, some necessitating the removal of clothing or bed covers. Often I sit in front of a fan. By this time next week, I will have met with a hematologist and my urologist concerning hormone imbalances. And yes, I am still on the Venlafaxine.

Is anyone else experiencing these symptoms a few years AFTER a Lupron shot?

I did not experience that. We monitored my testosterone levels with every PSA test. As testosterone level dropped (remained in high-single to low-double digits), side-effects increased. (PSA remained at 0.008 for the duration.) As testosterone levels increased, all side-effects decreased, eventually going away. I no longer experienced the warm flashes.

I'd like to answer your end of post question but I'm confused.
Did you have just one Lupron shot as indicated in your title and question or a year long series of monthly shots?? (I'll assume 'monthly')
I had RALP 1/22 and started monthly Lupron shots 3/22 and last one 1/23.
Yes, I still have hot flashes. But reduced with paroxetine; similar to your venlaflaxine.
Are they "killer"? Not unless having to remove my hat and/or open my shirt and/or have beads of sweat in me (very thin) hair is consider killer.
I'm pretty sure you're not alone in this one so good luck with your search for relief!
And please pass it along if you find something helpful.

@grandpun

Evidence is building that ADT and Lupron in particular may be doing more harm than good. Both Duke and Harvard have raised these issues in recent studies. Looking back 25 years ago the statistical evidence for ADT is very weak and maybe not statistically significant. Damage done by ADT is well known.

@grandpun I had a single Lupron shot. I carry small fans when out of the house. Thank you for your reply.

Have you had your testosterone level checked? You really need to do that to find out what’s going on with it. That is probably the reason you’re having this problem, but It is very unusual for someone to have a three month shot and never had their testosterone come back too close to normal.. You don’t mention your age that could be a factor if you are in your 80s or late 70s.

When I had really bad hot flashes I had depo-provera Shots every three months and that stopped them. Oxybutynin i’ve been real good for some people to stop the hot flashes.
