Horrible leg pain with fibromyalgia

Posted by fearless @fearless, Jun 6, 2012

Lately, I have been having terrible leg pains I think are associated with my fibromyalgia. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, because of my pain and fatigue I am unable to lose weight which is another downer on top of everything else. Any suggestions for that? I really am feeling rather defeated lately by fibromyalgia and my depression all tied into one.

Doesn’t Ropinirole make you tired next morning ? Even the lowest dose 0.25 mg made me so weak.

I’ve been able to manage the pain with Pilates and a daily mat routine. I’m also hypermobile and struggle with fatigue and doing it all. Finding a studio where I can go 1:1 and modify based on how I feel that day has been crucial. They help me understand where I’m off and I can work on it with stretches and mat work in between sessions. I go when I have migraines and low energy and always feel better after. Also recommend classic yoga studios that focus on meditation and tai chi. That also helps me a lot.

@duvaldena Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I see that you have been a member for at least a year and now felt comfortable enough to post ! You have certainly developed a movement routine that works for you. Has the Pilates helped your pain?

Hi! Pilates has absolutely helped my pain. I get twisted easily from being hypermobile and it’s under control and manageable since I got in a routine at the studio. I recommend “interviewing” studios to make sure it’s an environment where you can go at your own pace and has enough knowledge to modify exercises. My studio won’t let me take classes b/c I need too many modifications. I respect that!

I have been diagnosed for about 6 yrs. I have started back to my rheumatologist as my pain is worse. I am losing weight by taking Zepbound, eating healthy, smaller portions, drinking water or Sparkling water, no sugar, and trying to be more active. I have need a teacher for 23 years and have become very inactive. This year I started teaching PreK and am on my feet or up and down all day. This was very hard and a big adjustment for me. I did not think I would make it. It is still some days but I am pushing through. Right now all I take for pain and Fibro is Lyrica amd dual action Ibuprofen. I bipolar and other meds tend to interact with those meds. Thank you for sharing!

That is amazing! I am really proud of you! It is super hard to push through Fibro pain, headaches, and fatigue to exercise. I have been told by doctors and read people with Fibro say it really helps. I have become much more active. I am teacher and this summer I started riding an exercise bike. I rod2 4 wks then had the worse flare up I have ever had. I do not think the exercise caused it at all bit have not started back. So, keep it up! You are my hero!!!

Posoh!
Hello!
I was diagnosed with Fybro 22 yrs ago.
For the pain and soreness in my leg muscles I do leg/ankle excercises, use a hand held massager, Diclofenac creme, a magnesium supplement and Tizanidine.
I would soak also but alas, I have no bath tub.
I take Lyraca for my nerve pain and Cymbalta for my Major Depressive Disorder.
After years of trial and error and numerous doctors these work best for me.
Find yourself a good PCP and start there. Specialists, eg. Rhumatologist, Pain Management if needed.
Good luck!🦅

I know exactly how you feel. Thankfully Fibro is now realized to be a valid diagnosis. Diagnosed thirty years ago. Somedays almost totally disabled, other days mild or very tolerable.
Have had SEVERE leg pain in one leg several times. Twice advised to go to Emerg so they could rule out Deep Vein Thrombosis. The pain is nagging, unrelenting deep and keeps me awake. One time lasted for four days. Emerg docs were very good, ruled out other causes. Finally said, well clearly a severe fibro flare up. It really is sometimes difficult to discern fibro severe pain from other causes so we need to use our good judgement and experiences with this multifaceted disorder. I learned not to apologize if my symptamology was fibro related and not allow others to treat this very real and often painful phenomena in a condescending fashion. Hope this helped a little, you are not alone.. Take good care and keep sharing. Joanne
