Having a Holter Monitor placed today in anticipation of an ICD placement. Has anyone else had to have this?

Yes! About 2-3 weeks after my very successful septal myectomy at Mayo, I started getting dizzy and giddy when moving about. After much complaining and a syncope, I wore one for a month and had to press a button each time I was dizzy and giddy. Between the time the monitor was sent to the lab, and my cardiologist learned the results (I was having many arrythmia, undetected upon examination because I was sitting/laying rather than moving around), I had another syncope. It was a great day when Buddy, my ICD, was installed, no more dizziness, giddiness nor syncope!!!!

@walkinggirl I just sent my monitor back in today, I’m terrified I’ll need an ICD, coupled with everything else and my insurance telling me they are paying for camzyos, I don’t know what to do and don’t feel like worrying about it, I think I’ll just take a nap lol

@cash298 Please do not be terrified! I am hardly ever aware that it is even there, it paces my heart to be 60 beats a minute at rest. Knock on wood, it has never fired, just keeping the pace seems to be the solution here. I am grateful because I was getting to the point where I could not envision myself leading a life of dizziness and giddiness along with passing out (will I wake up)? I am a very active person. I think we all fear the unknown and this is/has been a big unknown for all of us who have an ICD and those who may get one. I like how you wrote "don’t feel like worrying about it, I think I’ll just take a nap...." You will cross the bridge to make a decision when you get there. If your doctor thinks you need the ICD, also think about your family and friends, we owe it to them as well as ourselves to take the very best care of ourselves.

@walkinggirl of course you are right, and I am prepared to go the distance with whatever I need to do, I don’t want to leave my grandkids without me.
