Gabapentin can be tricky. I have had both gabapentin and more recently, Lyrica. It messed up my memory, couldn't recall words. Really messed up my gut. Get a comprehensive list of side effects and watch yourself.
I was prescribed gabapentin and had to stop it not only because it had no effect on my pain but because it caused water retention in my legs and made me dizzy. I didn't need to add the injury of a fall to my condition.
Let me tell about falls…….DON’T! Always told that, but it happened. Hard to prevent when it is totally freak.
Thank you. I have a very bad gut right now so maybe I will hold off for a while if I can .
I tried gabapentin early on and I could not take it. It made my pupils enlarge to the size of my corneas and I had so much pressure in my head that I felt my head would explode. A horrible experience. I can't take most Fibromyalgia meds. Lyrica neither. They don't work for me and make my head feel really strange.
You’re not alone. The docs tried all they had and nothing worked that would let me lead a normal life.
When you start on Gabapentin, make sure your Dr starts you on a low dose like 100mg 3 times a day and gradually work your way up to when it is the right amount for you. Gabapentin doesn’t work right away. It has to be taken regularly for maybe a week for some people to notice if they are getting any relief. But this just my experience with it. It’s a life saver for me. I am on that does lift above.
Thank you
I started out on Duloxetine and have never been taken off of it. The Dr. added Gabapentin and I maxed out on that one without any change to my pain. So we worked off of that one and went to Lyrica. I am now maxed out on that one and only have a little relief. I have been on both meds together now ( Duloxetine and Lyrica) for 2+ years. A lot of my pain is lower back and legs so I have also tried Dilofenac cream. Good news is I didn't have any side effects with any of the meds that I have taken or are taking.
My doctor and rheumatologist said a firm no to gabapentin when someone mentioned it to me. For the RLS ands neuralgia I take Mirapex (pramipexole Dihydrochloride)0.125 mg 1 tablet for immediate relief.
