Help finding HRT over 10 years post menopause
Looking for any leads to find prescriber for HRT. My sister with Osteoporosis has been to 3 doctors and Midi and all refused. She is 64, 14 years post menopause. Many people have said Midi will do this, but they refused, saying they are required to follow the guidelines, which are no prescribing HRT more than 10 years post menopause. Location is Pittsburgh or Cleveland.

that is BS! I stopped for 10 years. Your doctors are behind the times. The research is THERE to do BHRT after a 10 year hyatis. Your doctors are lazy. Do the research yourselves and you will see. Take the paperwork to a GOOD doctor(an endocrinologist) and get your BHRT!
There is a shortage right now of the Estrodial patches.
I am on second year of Tymlos with one Reclast under my belt.

Which state are you in? There is someone else here who has mentioned a shortage in Colorado. We have not had that problem here in North Carolina and I wonder if we will. Thanks.
There is also a shortage of Estradiol transdermal patches here in BC Canada, so there would appear to be a global shortage. My pharmacist and functional medicine doctor are confident it will come back. Meanwhile, Estradiol transdermal gel is an alternative.

4 Reactions@mpc1 Have you noticed changes of any kind since you started HRT? Thanks.
started on HRT one year ago. my original numbers from the year before dexa ere -4.2 lumbar spine and -4 hip.
the new numbers are -3.5 lumbar spine and -4 hip.
no change good or bad for my hip, but not getting worse which is what the doctor said was what hrt for used for-to hold numbers steady. he was surprised that my spine actually improved.( he was pushing meds) who knows in another 2 years my next dexa will show osteopenia. could happen.
wish I could say some of it was because I was conscious and eating better/ taking calcium/ exercising more, but to be truthful I am a bit of a slacker. I am giving credit to the HRT. BTW, I am 77 and never took HRT before.

4 Reactions@babs10 I just started 0.025mg Estradiol patch (apply once a week). Ill be 79 soon, so age was not an issue with endo. By the end of the week my breasts were uncomfortable, sore, heavy. I have been on the patch for 2 weeks now. I plan to cut the patch in 1/2 due to the discomfort in my breasts...

78 here and live my bhrt.
Can I suggest that you talk to you provider before you cut your patches in half. When I started back on the patch I had breast tenderness for 4-5 days until it subsided. Do you also take progesterone and testosterone?

1 Reaction@gravity3 No, I don't take progesterone or testosterone. I read on line that it could take a few weeks or 2-3 months or longer for the discomfort to subside. Glad you had a good experience. I don't want to stop it because of the osteo, and will try cutting it in 1/2 to see if that will help. I'll bring it up at my next appt in Aug.
@samclembeau Could you explain exactly what you are taking and the dosage? Did your doctor express any negative comments before prescribing? My doctor has so far refused to prescribe this for me. Thanks.
