Have any of you noticed getting insomnia while tapering off prednisone

Posted by lindaadele @lindaadele, Dec 23, 2025

I have been tapering off prednisone very slowly for many weeks and I noticed that when I’m sleeping I will get up quite often and not be able to fall back to sleep again which is really very frustrating for me!!! any help you can give me would be much appreciated!!!

I started out on 20 mg of prednisone and hardly ever slept. I had weekly infusions of Rituxan and Solu-medrol which made sleep nearly impossible. I am tapering now and once I got to 5 mg I began sleeping better. I can’t wait to be done with it!

@barbarasolinski Steroids are great for inflammation, but they can also do some damage to your bones, especially if you have osteoarthritis. The water retention/body inflammation, is a side effect of the steroid, but steroids shouldn’t be used long term.

yes taking steroids both oral, & injection has the side affect of insomnia! I have had this with both types.
