Has anyone used Nattokinase or serrapeptase
I have just read about people who have used both of these supplements and have had really amazing improvement in their lung health. I read this on the Pulmonary Fibrosis news forum. I'm always nervous about taking some supplements. I sure would like to see some improvement. I've been exercising on a NuStep machine at a wellness center but could only get there a couple times a week. I decided to buy one to have at home. So now I can use it every day. I'm just so exhausted after using it. I do about 20 minutes in the morning and do another ten minutes in the afternoon. I can hardly do anything else. I really need some help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

lumbrokinase form earthworms might be another beneficial enzyme for fibrosis. Some supporting evidence, including a rat study from 2012, but not a ton. Best of luck to you.
Yes I've heard about using enzymes too. I bought some Nattokinase and Serrapeptase but haven't taken any yet. It sounds like you have to be careful as to when you take them so it doesn't interfere with medication you're taking. It would be nice if doctors would be more open to learning about these things. I know people always say you have to be your own advocate but I'm not sure what exactly that means. I've always trusted the doctors but now it's getting harder to do that.
Completely understandable. I think most doctors are trying hard to be helpful, but they simply don't have enough free time to keep up with the latest research, and even less time to study alternative therapies. Adding a holistic or functional doctor might be a consideration. I have zero medical training, but I try to keep up on the latest developments for lung health treatments. Supplements interacting with prescription meds also needs more research. My understanding with proteolytic enzymes is that it's best to take them between meals -- otherwise they act as digestive enzymes. FYI The late herbalist Stephen Buhner included lumbrokinase in his IPF protocol. Again, just one man's opinion. Happy 2024!
I started Nattokinase 100 mg twice a day on an empty stomach and I also make Natto at home and I eat 1/3 cup daily to detox from covid. Natto has health promoting benefits for many health conditions. Nattokinase, the enzyme in Natto, has anticoagulant properties and is not recommended if you are on blood thinners. Be sure to check with your doctor before taking it.
I am going add a separate post about exercise. Be patient, and kind to yourself when exercising. Start slowly and at a low intensity with your NuStep machine and check your oxygen level with an oximeter. My Cardiologist and Pulmonologist have instructed me to keep my oxygen level over 90%, slow down if my oxygen level drops, focus on correct breathing, and put on oxygen if need to.
Stay positive and continue to slowly ease into exercise without feeling exhausted. Your heart, brain, lungs need a consistent flow of oxygen.
Congratulations on your efforts to make healthy lifestyle changes to feel better. In 2021 I was in bed on 2L of oxygen and now I am off oxygen at home during the day.
Thanks for the info on Nattokinase. I hope to try it soon.
My oxygen stays in the 90's during the day and most of the night. I wear my Apple Watch over night. An oximeter doesn't work because of Raynauds. It can't pick up a reading. Sometimes at night it will drop to 87 but goes right back up in the same hour.
The exercise is good. I really like the NuStep machine. After my joint replacements it's really helpful.
Thanks again!! 😊
A doctor at USF Post Covid Recovery Clinic recommended that I take Nattokinase/serraptase combo supplement. I take 2 in the morning according to the directions on the bottle. I also take NAC, 2 capsules at the same time. I was diagnosed with Long Covid/Post Covid 19 in September 2022. I wake up with body aches in the morning. I feel relief within a half hour while I am making my breakfast and doing a few chores around the house. The USF doc added the Nattokinase combo for microclots, which can occur PostCovid. There is no good test for microclots, so she recommended taking the recommended dosage first thing in the morning before breakfast. I was already taking NAC, which was recommended by the functional/ integrative doc I saw.
Forgot to mention that I’ve been diagnosed with bronchial asthma, causing shortness of breath on slight exertion, like walking across a parking lot. When I was referred to a rheumatologist, he diagnosed me with rheumatoid arthritis, based on extensive bloodwork results. I currently use an albuterol inhaler as needed to help offset shortness of breath. I am weaning off Prednisone currently, a steroid. My rheumatologist is weaning me by 1MG a month. I started at 10, and am currently taking 7 MG. Before being diagnosed with my first round of Covid in 1/20, I had never had a lower respiratory infection. At that time I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I still have a cough, and have trouble keeping my O2 level above 90. I will be starting pulmonary rehab in a few weeks. I’m praying that will help with the cough and help raise my O2 level.
They really don't have any in depth knowledge about these kinds of supplements. They might know some general knowledge but that's as far as it goes!
Yes I agree. I wish some of the trillions of dollars the government spends would go to research!
I see my pulmonologist in a few months so if I take them until then we'll see if there is any change.
I was diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis (COPD ).
After being fiven a box of horse pull to keep mucus flowing and 3 inhalers. My condition remained the same. Repeated chest infections/Coughs.
I started Serrapeptase 200k IU per day with Olive leaf extract.within a week i stopped coughing and expelling mucus. I threw away my inhalers and pills and ive hardly coughed since. Very rarely had an infection and can walk for miles.
I would recommend Serra to anybody.
Bare in my that i stopped smoking on diagnosis. This was essential to reducing inflammation.
