Has Anyone taking Camzyos Experienced Higher Blood Pressure Readings?
I had been on Carvedilol for 4 years before starting Camzyos about a month ago. My fatigue issues have lessened significantly and now I can exercise and have a more fulfilling lifestyle in general. But, I am experiencing high blood pressure with Camzyos, and according to my regular doctor that is because Carvedilol lowered my blood pressure. Has anyone else dealt with this issue and if so, what has your cardiologist suggested? I would appreciate knowing what others have been advised. Thank you for any feedback. Debra

Hi
This is my first time on the site. My doctor is pushing for me to take Camzyos after a pacemaker has been put in six weeks ago to regulate my low heart rate. and I am on the channel blocker , verapamil and the beta blocker, bisproprolo. I am still experiencing shortness of breath on.. exertion. I am 82 years old and These symptoms have just come on in the last number of months. What is the downside to taking the camzios? I am very sensitive to medicine.
Thank you
Hi @suzyqm518 . If this is your first time on the site, welcome! The link below is a conversation that began in about 2022 I think and it contains lots of back and forth about what people have experienced on Camzyos. There's lots of other related conversations but that one is, I think, the best place to start. There's enough there to keep you busy reading for a long time. Like any other medication, some people have not had good results while other (like me) have had our lives completely turned around for the better. My blood pressure did go up a bit, but for me that was a small (tiny) price to pay. Other than that, for me, there have been no side effects whatsoever.
If you are in the USA, I think the new medication aficamten - similar to Camzyos - is due to come online any day now. If rumors are true, it may have fewer side effects. I don't have any good information on that though.
Good luck in your search. Being out of breath after just tying your shoes is no fun at all!

2 ReactionsHi @suzyqm518 ,
I join @boatsforlife in welcoming you to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'm glad you found this online community.
I absolutely could not have said it better than what @boatsforlife has already posted. His wise counsel is one I would listen to...read the stories of other Camzyos folks to get a sense of what to expect.
Although, no two people are the same, each one of us will have a different response to medications. You know you better than anyone!
I've got a question for you: Is your cardiologist well educated in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy?
You just had a pacemaker put in for a low heart rate, and you take two additional meds, a calcium channel blocker and a beta blocker. Either of these alone, and certainly together, can cause shortness of breath. But so can HCM. No wonder you are concerned.
You also mention these symptoms came on rather fast...just a few months.
So, I've got another question for you: When do you see your cardiologist again? Shortness of breath is a symptom of something. You want to be sure it is not due to the medications, along with advancing HCM. How long have you known you had HCM?
I will add to your reading list:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hypertrophic-cardiomyopathy/symptoms-causes/syc-20350198
Shortness of breath is one of many symptoms of HCM, but it can also be the side effect of certain meds.
I would bring this to your doctors attention...but in the meantime, learn as much as you can about what is living in your heart. You want to be able to advocate for yourself. Many patients with HCM or the dreaded HOCM, go undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed for years because HCM is a sneaky disease, masquerading as many other heart conditions.
When do you see your doctor next? Do you have a list of questions for them?
