Has anyone heard of an artificial kidney being made?

Hi @gregsr, welcome to Connect! I’m one of the community moderators here. I found a story about the Kidney Project, which is a team out of the University of California San Francisco. They’ve been able to create a prototype of a surgically implantable, artificial kidney! https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2015/11/165666/artificial-kidney-research-advances-through-ucsf-collaboration
Are you living with kidney disease?

Yes, on dialysis three days a week, “4” hrs. per-session.
Thank you for sharing, @gregsr. I know dialysis can be exhausting (physically and mentally), so I’d like to connect you with @nancyckd and @sotired who are both living with kidney disease. It helps to know that you’re not going through this alone!
Gregsr, how long have you been living with kidney disease?
17 years but, been on dialysis for close to two years.
Refer to David Humes, MD at University of Michigan. Work done over last two decades

Has anyone heard or know anything about an artificial kidney or kidney cloning?
I see you are still seeking information on artificial kidney. Here is the link to Dr. David Humes’ lab at University of Michigan as suggested by @mtmA2 http://www.med.umich.edu/humes/ According to the site, the bioartificial kidney is not yet available for standard use and studies were suspended during phase IIb.
Here is some information the University of California too from https://pharm.ucsf.edu/kidney
Thank you very much.
Yes, dialysis 3 days a week 4 hours a session and, it’s hell.
Hello, please visit the website “the kidney project”. It seems wonderful to me. Complete the easy form to put your name in the database. They say it should be available in 2020. UCSF, Dr. Shuvo. Read about it.
Hi @kathleenla, and welcome to Connect. You'll see that I moved your message about a bioartifical kidney to this discussion that @gregsr started a while back. He, too, is excited about the possibility of this innovation.
Here's the link to the UCSF website that Kathleen refers https://pharm.ucsf.edu/kidney The frequently asked questions page for patients is particularly informative https://pharm.ucsf.edu/kidney/device/faq
Kathleen, What is your interest in the project? Do you have kidney disease?
Hello, yes, I am indeed a kidney patient. I have been on dialysis previously, had a very successful transplant for 14 years and am now back on dialysis for the past 8 years. I received a personal response from Dr. Shivo and I am very encouraged. How about you?
I stand corrected. I misspelled the doctor’ name; it should be Dr. Shuvo. Sorry. Kathleen
