I have had chronic lower back pain for years. I tried the needles, PT, and pain pills, but nothing works. Recently, I had surgery for a pinched nerve that left me with numbness in my legs and feet. I love to walk, but now I'm having trouble with my balance due to the numbness. I am seeing ads for a new HFX pain relief. Has anyone tried it? If so, what do you think?

1 Reaction@witzend - I moved your post here so that you could speak with another Mayo Clinic Connect member who has considered the Nevro spinal cord stimulator (Nevro HFX) for back pain, @beryl. Here is where your post is now:

I'd also like to invite @annabellas4th @elsa @wheelerma @jenniferhunter into this discussion. @safarigoddess @wales @gran61 also may have something to add.
@witzend, have you had the chance to speak to your primary care doctor about this device and what he or she might suggest? If so, what did they say?
I have decided not to get the implant, it is just too technical with all the adjustments you may have to make, too confusing for me !!!

2 Reactions@lisalucier Not yet. Just getting my ducks in a row before asking my doctor. About a year ago, I talked to my pain and management doctor who said I wasn't a good candidate for the Boston scientificc unit. But that's before I had an operation for a pinch nerve.

I had the implant done. It didn’t work for me so I had the surgeon remove it during my lumbar fusion.

My wife had the Nevro (can't remember model) about 3 years ago. It worked for a while and then it faded. The most important thing I found was to get good reps as they will be the ones who figure out adjustments. The Dr. pretty much takes the money and runs. It does get to be a pain charging and programming.
They do seem to slowly have less effect with time from what I have seen.
She had quit using hers and had it taken out after the next fusion.
The things I learned are this is a very profitable surgery. Pain Dr.'s push it even if the application isn't right. When you do the initial tesing it only lasts like a week I think they turn the thing way up to better your chance of a positive trial, unfortunately you can't leave it at that level after you get it in.
The implant surgery was more painful then what was described as was the explant.
Definately interview a few different Dr.'s
