Has anyone had strabismus eye surgery

Posted by tkr1 @tkr1, Jul 12, 2023

I am scheduled for eye muscle surgery to correct my long term strabismus. Is this a good decision or should I continue with a lot of prism correction in my glasses?

I have had 3 strabismus surgeries. Age 5, 24 and 42.
The later 2 to correct outward drifting of the right eye. I am extremely left eye dominant. My depth perception is fine and there is no double vision. You may never have equal vision in both eyes but with a skilled surgeon who specializes in strabismus you should have a good result. Wishing you the best!

I had it a month ago at Mayo. It cured the problem. I’ve worn contacts for 50 years and didn’t like dealing with glasses. First week after was painful but no complications. 6 weeks in and still sone redness but glad I made the decision to have the surgery now at age 67.

Thank you for your responses. I am 75 years old and am nervous about the surgery. I need 6 diopters of prism now for correction which is close to the max the physician wants to prescribe. I’m hopeful there won’t be any complications. 🤞🏻
