Has anyone had green mucus for over a year?
I was diagnosed with BE about 10 years ago. Never did anything about it. May 2023 I caught a really bad lower respiratory virus and was on antibiotics and steroids for 2 weeks. When I was sick I starting coughing up lots of green mucus. I went to see my Dr at NJH last October and had 1 sputum test show MAC but then have had 6 more tests that are negative. Fast forward to today and I have been doing nebulizer with saline daily and sometimes levalbuterol along with a vest once a day. I still cough up green mucus every day. And I cough it up only when I lie down and stretch after my workouts or if I lie down for a nap in the afternoon. My Dr seems to not be concerned about the green mucus, but I am. Does anyone else cough up green mucus daily?

I spelled ID doctors name incorrectly. Its James Joyner.
Also myself have been with green and clear phelm all year along with vertigo been to doctors specialists off and on antibiotics prednisone and it's not going away and then soon as I think it's clearing up I'm back to feeling sick all over again. I tried not to take antibiotics and just do vitamins water and that didn't take it away either .I don't know what to do any more ..I'm thinking it's something being sprayed in the air with chem trails with weather changing .
What is your airway clearance routine?
I was bringing up green as a mucus plug every once in a while before being diagnosed with BE and MAI infection.
With doing nebulizing and air way clearance I no longer bring up the green mucus plug. The mucus plugs are now very light yellow to white in color.
My MAI count has stayed stable for over a year. I have not tried the antibiotics as yet.

I coughed up green mucus for years, like you specifically lying down on couch almost nightly in this position. It left a foul taste as well. It was the MAC infection. I’m now doing the big 3 and can hardly bring anything up, if I do it is clear with no taste!

You mentioned vertigo. I was having that quite often and doctor said nothing wrong with you after blood tests. However that was before I knew I was low , very low, on Vitamin D. Once I started the D the vertigo went away. Vitamin D plays a role in so many things with our blood and systems. Not all doctors are checking for Vitamin D deficiency. I have mine checked once a year.
I take it you are seeing a pulmonologist who specializes in Bronchiectasis and knows all that one needs to know and understands what is good and not good for patients with BE when taking various medications????

My docs at NJH increased my vitamin D intake from 1000iu to 5000iu per day, even though my levels were "normal"! I have also experienced lightheadedness from low iron. Apparently MAC feeds on iron, so I make sure to check levels regularly.
Hi Jill.
Yes, my sister, Jill, there in Belmar a good few years back who has worked in Health Food stores for over 25 years and; now at Whole Foods, Spring Lake; in the vitamin depts. was told she had low D and started taking 5,000 a day. Went back a good few months later and it was still low so she increased it with caution. "Normal" is sometimes declared by doctors when it is just below mid range or in the mid range when in reality it is best for some, and most, to be nearer the higher range which I myself prefer. Regarding the iron. I avoided multiple supplements with iron in years previous due to post menopause, however recently I have made sure there is some in the multiple vitamin I am taking.

Important to understand what it means for MAC to feed on iron. Pseudomonas also "feeds on iron".
While taking iron supplements might not directly increase MAC lung disease, excessive iron intake or iron overload can exacerbate mycobacterial infections, including MAC, according to multiple research articles. Iron overload can promote the growth of mycobacteria and make them more virulent. Conversely, iron deficiency can weaken the immune system and make individuals more susceptible to infections, including MAC.
Do you remember what your normal levels were when they told you to increase your D intake? Low normal?
