Has anyone had anxiety and depression from taking crestor

Posted by cathyjj @cathyjj, Sep 29, 2024

I have been on Crestor 10 mg for 7 months. Am now on anti depressants from gradual anxiety from last 7 months. Have stopped Crestor 5 days ago and hope side affects improve.

I weaned off of Crestor as of August 6, 2024. I worked with my doctor to stop this statin as well as a beta blocker I was taking. In May of this year, I became overwhelmed with depression and anxiety. I’ve always been prone to anxiety, but depression was a new one. I decided the only thing that could be causing those problems so intensely was medication, as nothing had changed in my life. I have already gone through other medications that, after months of taking them effectively, suddenly became intolerable for me. I had hoped to see improvement after stopping. I am slightly better, but still don’t find much joy in doing things and I’m incredibly lethargic. I have read that statins can cause long-term mental health issues as well as physical ones. Your post has me wondering if I am stuck in a bad place still because of his medication?? So, honestly, I don’t know what my answer would be for you. I know I took Crestor and I know I now suffer depression. Really hoping it ends soon! I hope you are able to see improvement soon!

I went off Crestor September 26. I looked back and symptoms started when I started Crestor. I have done much reading and find many cases of anxiety linked to statins. I have had depression from grief from losing a son 4 years ago but have been handling it now pretty well. Never had anxiety before! I don’t even want to go out to eat or social functions. Hope we both do better!

Your behavior is all too familiar. I have no desire to do anything. I’m very sorry for the loss of your son and understand how that would be hard to deal with. Anxiety is a real stinker! Couple it with depression and it’s a truly miserable existence. I hope putting this drug behind us helps us both.

Thank you, and may God bless us both with better mental health!

@jules725 I’m not sure what your dosage for Crestor is, but I have had to start taking it again and have been able to do so for 11 months without issue. It has greatly lowered my cholesterol again and I am only taking 5 mg. I am, however, also taking .5 mg of Xanax every morning. A much better situation than I was in before, but still lack energy and motivation frequently. I hope you show improvement soon. Maybe it’s just a period of adjustment?? The problem I spoke of in my first post caused a 35 pound weight loss and what felt like a complete breakdown. I slowly pulled out of it when I was taking no medication, but the doctor said that was not sustainable when he saw my numbers jump back up after just six months. I never did return to beta blockers though.

I have tried all statins over the years, including Crestor, at varying dosages, & suffered, at times, serious depression. Always went away when I stopped the medication. Am now on Leqvio injections, which seem, so far, to be less problematic.
Some of my doctors over the years acted doubtful of my complaints about the statins, but they were genuine.

The same thing happened to me. The worst was Clopidogrel after getting a stent. I went from happy and energetic to depressed, no appetite, anxious and never wanting to get out of bed. Docs kept saying go see a psychologist. I kept saying this is not a coincidence. 6 weeks in I had an anaphylactic reaction that kept me in hospital for a couple of days. They finally agreed it was the Clopidogrel, saying “you are an anomaly “. I say Trust your gut. I have had a reaction from every statin. Now they want me to try Repatha. I am now going to have my DNA checked through pill check, which tells you if you will have a reaction to different drugs. Wish me luck.
