Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?

I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

I have no pain and only numbness in my toes. I do get tingling from time to time in feet and I had felt a bit wobbly when exercising. In April I had an EMG test--ordered by my neurologist and was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. I also had unexplained weight loss so I underwent scans, MRI,blood work and ultra sound to rule out cancer. In the meantime, I did some research on vitamins as well as diet. I looked at dietary recommendations for MS and RA and decided to cut back on sugar and gluten. At my visit to the neurologist this past week, when I mentioned the vitamin regimen and the dietary modifications, he suggested a blood test for celiac disease and according to the blood test, I have celiac disease--which probably explains the neuropathy and weight loss. I am awaiting my doctor's input but its pretty clear that I now must avoid gluten to restore my health as much as possible. I am finding out that with neuropathy--especially non-diabetic groups--we must be our own advocates, stay focused and do as much as we have in our power to try to heal. I hope you feel better and can get out of pain.

I have taken Metanx for 9 weeks out of the prescribed three months, and my neuropathy is much worse. Went from about level 3 to level 7. It's interfering with my Life. Has anyone else had this happen on Metanx?

I have found that vitamin B12 and B1 taken together have had a large effect on pain reduction. I saw the positive effects after taking them together after 2 weeks.
B12 1200mg, B1 100mg taken once a day

I have not taken this but know it contains high amount of b6. Some people get toxic from high doses of b6. Too much b6 may cause peripheral neuropathy.

After reading numerous comments, I believe that PN is a natural development due to aging and all you can do for it is grit your teeth and use the best pain cream. We all will develop it sooner or later with nothing to blame it on as our bodies wear out, but remember our bodies are just loaners and even earth is wearing out too.

Large doses of Gabapetin have solved the pain at night and allowed me to get a good night sleep. 900 mg

I have been taking 600mg of gabapentin 2 hours before I go to bed at night. However I wake up every 2-3 hours to go to the bathroom and some nights, like last night, I have burning feet and ankles. I have started taking an Advil PM right before going to bed and it helps me sleep much longer so I don't wake up and feel whatever pain I may be having in my feet. I only need 1/2 of the tablet and It makes a big difference.,,, so far.

I do not think PN is primarily an aging thing. There are people in their 20s, 30s and 40s that have neuropathy. There are folks in their 80s and 90s with no neuropathy. It seems to be a complex phenomenon with multiple causes. Yes, our bodies change over time--all the more reason to not only "grit your teeth" but make dietary adjustments and find some exercise challenges that will work for you and make aging a healthy experience.
