I have not had it done, awaiting Septal Myectomy in June
My Mayo Cardiologist said because of my youth 57 and active life style septal myectomy would be best, because alcohol ablation still leaves some scarring which still leaves a person with some obstruction.
He said if i was in my late 70’s or not in very good health Alcohol Ablation would be in my best interest,
I have to ask did you have your septal myctomy done at a COE center? I have read where Rochester has had to fix so many peoples septal myectomy because it was done poorly by a hospital that did not do it right!
My mayo cardiologist said so many hospitals will tell you they can do this surgery! He said do not believe them, he said there are only a handfull of surgeons and hospitals that can do this effectively and tow of the surgeon's are in Rochester Mayo!
Best of luck to you!
No I didn't have my Septical Myectomy, done at Mayo ..
I had no choice but to have it done at a hospital who does them all the time.
Mayo doesn't take my insurance.
It saved my life when I needed it, even tho it has come back its just one of those things.
I myself don't want to go through another surgery for another Septical Myectomy.
I was also a very active person but because of my health From Hypertrophic Cardiomyothopthy I am looking for another option and Alcohol Septel Ablation is probably my best option I think for me ...
Thanks for your response....
Sorry to hear it has worsened again!
As your probably aware there are other COE’s other than mayo and it sounds like you did have it done at a COE!
You raise some really good concerns and questions about your particular situation and i hope your able to get the answers you desire! Im guessing camzyos has been talked about with your cardiologist?
I have not had septal myectomy yet and im not looking forward to the surgery but what im looking forward to is getting my life back!
I wish the best for you
I had an alcohol ablation done 4.5 years ago at UNC and it was successful. Quick recovery; I was 78 at the time.
Thank you for your comment....
I am still a little apprehensive about having this procedure, but I don't think I can go through another Septical Myectomy surgery....
Hello @holly1275, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.
Wow...what a strange place to be right now! You must be very stressed, and who would not be!
I see that you have mentioned your insurance is not taken by Mayo Clinic. Just to be certain, because this is vitally important, it may not hurt to reach out once again. Here is a link to speak to someone at the Mayo Clinic about insurance issues.

I echo what @brumasterj posted...Mayo Clinic is the world's leading expert in septal myectomies, and they often perform re-do septal myectomies performed in other facilities. Having one from a hospital that "does them all the time" may not compare to the thousands Mayo has done. Have you asked why your septal myectomy did not work? That's important information going forward.
Your life is yours, and it's most important that you get the best care possible.
I also found this on Mayo Clinic that you may find interesting:

I feel so bad for you being in this terrible position. Have you considered or received a second opinion?
Unfortunately What I was told by Mayo Clinic that my insurance is one that they don't except.
I asked about any alternative, and they said to me is they except Cash payment credit card, and if I understood her right she said they need so much money as a deposit.
As far as asking why it didn't work I had an appointment with my cardiologist who I really trust and it was explained that sometimes it can happen .
I feel so horrible, tired headaches, my left arm is going numb, I keep trying new medication that makes me sick.
At this point I think Alcohol Septel Ablation is probably my only choice.
I thought that by having a Septical Myectomy it was going to work .
Thank you for your response..
There are places at Mayo where you can apply for financial assistance. https://www.mayoclinic.org/billing-insurance/financial-assistance
You may wish to look into this. I've donated to a fund each year that financially helps people receive care at Mayo Rochester.
Thank you for your information it's Glady appreciated. I called Mayo Clinic to to confirm again and spoke to someone in Rochester Minnesota, and she confirmed what Mayo in Jacksonville FL said my insurance is not excepted at either places. She did give me some information about other programs. I will look further into it , as the days go by I am begining to feel worse than I was before the Septical Myectomy and must move quickly to get something done this time so it doesn't return.
I really feel for you as well as everyone else that had been reading your post!
Im sure the thiught of having another myectomy is super stressful!
But i believe if it is done correctly you will be so much happier down the road!
I really want to encourage you to look at other COE’s
