USING 81MG ASPIRIN FOR STROKE, OR AS A BLOOD THINNER

What sort of trouble do you imagine or have your heard about? Or are you already taking it and having a problem of some sort?

This may be more than you are willing to share, and I'd understand perfectly if that is the case....but, do you have a risk, or series of risks, that have you taking the aspirin? I am on a Direct Oral Anti-Coagulant, or DOAC, one of the recently developed novel anti-coagulants that use a different clotting mechanism as their targets. Aspirin has its limited use as a prophylactic against stroke, but it is limited...and that is why the better choices for some of us who have a CHA2DS2-VASc score higher than about 1.5 is one of the DOACs. For example, if you have an arrhythmia, or you have non-stablized deposition of plaque (haven't been on a statin for several years by now), you have a risk of mortality associated with displaced clots washed upstream toward the heart or the brain, or into the lungs.

I have never had a problem from taking aspirin.

I have always found it very helpful. Years ago, I would often take three, 325mg aspirin at a time, two or three times a day.

Since having a stroke, it's one 81mg/day. The 81mg tablets have virtually no effect on me, positive or negative. I take them out of habit.

Nope. Never had afib, at least not that I know of.

The cause of my stroke is unknown, though I have a suspicion.

I talk about it on my YouTube channel, mostly in Episode 5.

Yes, those in my family seem to have high levels of stomach ( hydrochloride acid) production.
My doctor wanted me on Aspirin 81mg
( baby Asa.) once a day for heart issues & stroke history in my family members. I also have SVT.
Anyway, it makes my stomach hurt after 2 days, & I told my PCP that…he still wants me in it so he prescribed Prilosec
20 mg. once a day.
I now can take the once a day baby aspirin, & it no longer bothers me.
Hope this helps, just tell your PCP & they can write you a prescription.

The use of low dose aspirin as a blood thinner has and is going through a lot of debate among medical professionals.

I have been on a low dose aspirin for decades. I did have a test done down into my stomach as was having some stomach issues. They said they saw areas that usually happen after long term usage of aspirin.

I talked to my PCP and we discussed the continuing usage of aspirin. For me it was to keep taking it. I was though given a prescription for it as the prescription provided a better coding (spell) than OTC products. Have been taking the prescription for at least 5 years now without any stomach discomfort.
