Hi there: Has anyone had success in weaning off of Omeprazole? I take it for GERD. Thank you in advance!

@lacy2 Even though it was a link to local water treatment places it did have some very good info. As I said, I was just surprised that it didn't mention salt but maybe it was not written by someone in a snowy state where salt is often used on roads and driveways. I hope that being 700' down does help with our water purity, that's a lot of filtering on its way down.

Our water is better tasting than good purchased water like Poland Springs. We are very spoiled in that regard.

...yes we have winer 6 months here in northern ontario too and just saw on news they are concerned about the salt getting into our lakes... duh!!! where did they think the salt would end up? for sure, the soil itself filters water so your well should be good... we have quite sandy soil here around the lake so not sure how good it is to filter, but I think many of us take it for granted that water is safe from whatever source, sometimes not knowing the source! Any time i use water even from municipal supply to wipe my eyes or rinse my mouth i always boil and cool... i have bought Brita jugs but they are supposed to be cleaned out with bleach occasionally - who does that? We think the charcoal filter protects. Well I have hot air vent bedroom floor and for moisture in air put a glass bowl of water on the vent which is flat to the floor... after a few days the water has evaporated but you would not belive the white residue left in the bowl..... also after couple of days our dogs dish of water has a sort of slime in it, but that could be from bacteria or whatever from dogs mouth when drinking.... i am not driving myself crazy over all this but i take precautions at home but what guarantee do i have when visiting a friend (pre covid) or daughters, or even a restaurant. none.

I started trying to get off it as i have been taking it for 6-7-8 who remembers how long. I started having a tightness in my throat, like something is laying on the back of my throat or tongue. I might take one every few days. LATE YESTERDAY i had to take one as the so called heartburn hit me some time after my afternoon coffee. Apple juice also seems to help a little. I waited for dinner just had a light salad I am not going to take one today, we will see how it goes. Coffee is a pleasant habit until it isn't .

Try healthwise low acid coffee, that's what I drink. Apple juice is acidic so I never drink it.
Drop all spicy and acidic food and drink from your diet.

@stash as @riflemanz64 mentioned, there are low-acid coffees. I had to drink them due to Barrett’s Esophagus which is now in remission. Dark roast coffees all have less acid than other coffees because the acid burns off in the longer roasting time.

I presume you are you not using very vinegary salad dressing either. I never knew that almond is alkaline. I was drinking a lot of that until I realized I needed more protein for my osteoporosis. Now I use regular low-fat milk in my oatmeal in the morning. I actually like almond milk in it more though.

JK, that’s awesome that your Barrett’s is in remission just like mine. The low acid diet does work! Keep up the good work!

Would it be that instant Decafe like Nescafe would have no acid at all

No, it has a high acid content.

I drink probably 10 bottles of water a day. I stop eating 3-4 hrs before bedtime. I cut out all fried fatty foods. I don't eat out. I eat a lot of chicken breast, boiled potatoes or baked, steamed broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach. Breakfast is cheerios with unsweetened almond milk. I eat no spicey foods.I only use 3 tablespoons of healthwise coffee in my bunn drip coffee maker. That's all you need.

@riflemanz64 I really cannot take credit for doing much. I drink coffee, I do prefer dark roast so that’s generally what I drink, and I eat chocolate. The biggest things I gave up were citrus and carbonated beverages. I do eat an occasional clementine though.

Is alcohol bad for Barrett’s? I had to give up wine after a liver transplant but I generally only drank one glass with dinner. Strangely, my diabetes is also in remission!
