Genetic Nerve Deafness : What worked for me was an amplifier..

Genetic Nerve Deafness: My hearing doctor said he could NOT help me when hearing aids did not work. I gave up until my church had a new amplifier system for hard of hearing members I tried and heard every word so I bought a personal amplifier from the same company for only $ 50 worn around the neck with two earbuds. 🙏😊

...good to know, am seeing a new hearing aid specialist in town shortly and will ask abgout an amplifier: i tried hearing aids for a short time but have some hearing loss with hyperacusis... so didnt work for me, maybe an amplifier would! J.

The key to all assistive technology is that it bypasses ambient noise and comes directly to whatever type of hearing device you are using. It sounds as if your church has an FM system installed. You are using a device called a receiver which is a bit like a portable radio. You connect earbuds or a headset to it.

People who use hearing aids equipped with telecoils can plug a neckloop into that receiver and get the sound loud and clear too. When people tell me that hearing aids didn't work well for them I wonder if the person who sold them explained the options that bring sound directly to the hearing instrument in places like churches, theaters, performing arts centers, meeting rooms, etc. I encourage everyone who is trying hearing aids for the first time to insist on learning about those options and trying them before they buy. Providers who sell hearing aids should be required to explain and demonstrate this. A shame they are not.

@lacy2 Praying works for you too . I remember my friend in a nursing home lost her hearing aids cost
$6,000 back in about 2006 and the hearing specialist said try a headphone amplifier and my friend said it was $100 and worked better than the $6,000 hearing aides ... 😊🌻

@julieo4 i saw the new apple headphone have a hearing aid feature. Did anyone try them?? They probably sound more natural than the metalic sound of a hearing aid.
