Searching for a Gastric Sleeve to Bypass Revision "Buddy"
Hello group. I had the gastric sleeve 15 years ago and I never reached my goal weight. I regained 75% of my weight, and my acid reflux, which I have had for decades (I'm 53) is worse than ever. I saw a bariatric surgeon recently who says that the gastric bypass should fix both of my problems. I am looking for a "buddy", preferably female, who is going to soon undergo the same revision to share stories and provide support for one another.

Believe me, I have called so often that the girl at the front desk sighs every time she answers the phone. I hate being a pest, but this is MY life! LOL.

4 ReactionsHi ,
I had a sleeve procedure in 2017 and am now having a revision surgery to the Gastric Bypass in less than week. The journey since late July with the Mayo Clinic team has been life-changing so far and I can’t wait for the next step in my journey.
I am also traveling from Las Vegas to Phoenix for my surgery.
Take Care,
D

3 Reactions@dsullivan2364 Hello! Oh, my goodness. I'm so excited for you, D! Did you experience weight regain? Insufficient weight loss or acid reflux? Good luck with your procedure! How's the pre-op diet going? What are you allowed to eat? Please keep us posted. We're here for you.

1 Reaction@pinkrose72 Yes, I was not disciplined and lost my way during Covid. Fortunately, I did not have issues with reflux. I’ve done well in pre-op dieting. Down about 35 pounds since late July. Diet is really just training me to eat more healthy. Not much restriction pre-op other than cut out sweets and no alcohol. Post-op I’ll be on liquid only diet for two weeks, then puréed foods for 2-4 weeks, then soft foods for a similar amount of time before eating regular foods again. Intake will be reduced significantly. Also, no drinking while eating meals.
Are you still researching or preparing for the gastric bypass now?
@pinkrose72 hey "neighbor", I'm in Wisconsin! Lol. Glad to hear you got your surgery date finally!! It'll be here before you know it!!

1 Reaction@pinkrose72 Hi! Slow to get answers on things, still nothing definitive yet. Should know for sure by next week however. Had to meet with my bariatric team in January like I mentioned before. Then I was referred to the surgery team in February. They decided they wanted some testing done. So after insurance approval and getting it scheduled, I just had my last text this am. I had an Upper GI endoscopy about 2 weeks ago. The surgeon had a few ideas afterwards but wanted the x-ray to be sure. He was thinking it was a hiatal hernia or part of the fundus from my sleeve that was left behind. Also the junction where my esophagus goes into my sleeve & the sleeve curves is kinda really narrow. So that's a big issue. The other possibility was bile reflux from having my gallbladder removed (in 2012?!). Today was an Upper GI X-ray. The radiologist today is thinking it's the narrowing of my sleeve causing the problem. So next week I get to find out what the plan is.

1 Reaction@readinglamb Oh my! You've got a lot going on. I have some bile reflux too, as I had my gallbladder removed in 2017. Good luck with everything, and I hope you get some relief soon, whether you end up converting to the bypass or not.
