Posted by xmohasci @xmohashi, Mar 22, 2024

I have turned 68 and my weight has been reducing despite maintaing balanced diet. Recently, I joined the gym to stay fit and restore reasonable muscle mass. I hope I am on the right path to strengthening my maturing body.

I'm 63 and lost 50 pounds last year do to illnesses, and a lot of it was muscle.
One thing I started doing is drinking a protein drink with breakfast, as i don't have much of an appetite these days. I try to walk several times a week, do daily stretches, and my dr. just prescribed me some PT to get me going again, which doesn't start til around the beginning of next year. But yeah, it is slow going and I gained a LOT of new wrinkles...Ugh!!

@bweaver2025 Good luck to you. With determination and some solid science in kinetics working for you, you should do well over the next three months. A little at a time, but POTENT exercising designed to restore muscle mass, is key. One factor is 'human growth hormone' or HGH. This is encouraged by repeated and forceful high-intensity training (HIT), which you can google. I would not attempt it unless coached by a knowledgeable person, at least at first until you get the gist of what it should be.....for YOU,...and how to do it. Gotta be careful not to set yourself back a ways by making mistakes. But HGH helps to grow muscle, and one way to encourage it is HIT exercise two or three times each week. That and good nutrition, of course.

Hemp hearts are shelled hemp seeds.
High in omegas, protein and magnesium with a decent dose of fiber.

@newtoni48 Thank you for clarifying that. Along with whey powder and yogurt your smoothie should give you all the protein you need for the day.

@bweaver2025 if you are able to eat solid foods, there are many ways to get protein- even gentle ways like scrambled eggs, yogurt, simply cooked fish and poultry..making sure each meal has some protein…it helps to always have some carbs, and fats like olive oil…the protein-carb-fat trifecta is what my docs prescribed for weight gain…fiber as soon as I could, gently at first and now I eat any fiber. .. small meals and snacks …and while I watched sugar and fat consumption, I gained enough to regain strength. More exercise increased appetite.

@holdrege Yes I should have been drinking the 30 gram protein drinks last year when I was so sick.
I started last year with a stomach ulcler and hiatal hernia, followed by a good case of misdiagnosed lymes disease, then followed by a case of bronchitis. 195 pounds to 145!

@nycmusic oh, yes—avocados are excellent soft, nutritious food.

Have you check with your doctor that your weight loss is not due to some medical reason? I would, just to make sure.

I have the same goal, but I have a place where I can do physical exercise outdoors, it's so great
