I have gained weight recently at the 3 month mark of using Forteo. It is not listed as a side effect.

Hi @leeosteo Just curious, is there a difference with your copay and coverage between generic teriparatide and Forteo? (My HMO only prescribes Forteo and not generic teriparatide.)
tricia225, thanks for your reply. Is your insurance through medicare..... plan D (original medicare) or medicare advantage? For original medicare, I know Plan D can vary. Just curious. I'm on original medicare with Plan D through Aetna.
ssapp1, why do you prefer tymlos over forteo? What are gains you experienced on Tymlos e.g., 5%, 10% over Forteo? My endo has suggested Forteo, Tymlos or Evenity. I'm leaning toward Forteo because it's been around longer and well tolerated by most.

1 Reactiontetris, I haven't researched the cost difference yet.. between Forteo brand name and teriparatide generic yet. My Plan D (original medicare) covers both. I suspect the generic would cost less. I'd rather take the brand name because you never know if the generic formulation is the same.

I am not sure of the percentage gains over Forteo, but at least 5%. Tymlos you don’t have to refrigerate, although I did, not sure why. It has an adjustable dosage. I had gains in all areas. On Forteo, actually I am on tereparatide, I had some gains and some losses. My insurance would not cover Forteo, but would cover Tymlos or tereparatide. Hope that helps.

1 Reactionssapp1, this does help. Where were your losses?
@leeosteo I will find my paperwork this week and give you the specifics
I could not tolerate Forteo. I even visited an immunologist to try to get on. I have tolerated Tymlos because the adjustable dose allowed me to ramp up, and for most of the time I did not even take a full dose. But gained 20% in spine and 9% in hip. Tymlos is very effective for spine.
I have seen comparison charts and they are very similar but Tymlos came out slightly ahead. It has been around a lot longer then Evenity, which I felt was too new but many docs seem to be prescribing it.
I initially lost weight on Tymlos. Maybe some people eat more to settle nausea down-?
I also gained weight, on reclast. very distressing
