I am not experiencing this after being on Forteo now 4 months, however when I spoke to the Specialty Pharmacy issuing my Forteo that people are posting this as happening - her response was you all should report it to the FDA as it’s only after they hit a number that is statistically significant that they can then add that as a potential side effect. If you all did this you could impact that and possibly change the information given as a side effect of that drug.
I reported it along with three or four other women that I know of. I called Lilly who pleaded ignorance and then they took all my information and told me that they would send it to the FDA. Don't believe they will do anything. Lilly will now want to push Ozempic on us to lose the weight! lol
On a serious note, my doctor told me he was on the research team back in 2003 and they told him not to mention it because women wouldn't take it and "not enough of these women really gained weight, they're all in menopause". Now...if these were men gaining weight...!
I was on HRT and never had a dexa. I went off the HRT, moved to another state and that is when my compression fracture happened. The immediate drop in estrogen unmasked the genetic osteoporosis that I never knew was there. I never ever had belly fat through menopause or while on HRT.
I have been off Forteo now for three months; I feel like my old self energy-wise and while there is still a jelly roll around my once 27" waist, my stomach was flatter after the first month off that stuff. It moved the needle the tiniest bit in the right direction and while I'm grateful for the added density, I wish they'd tell about all the side effects.
