I took it for o my a short time and felt terrible. My chest felt heavy and had digestive issues. Ci just didn’t feel well. I stopped it after three months. My husband who has a few issues as well, had an ablation and is in sinus rhythm and remains on flecanade for the last year without issues.
Are you taking it now? i have the paroxysmal version of afib. I was on flecainide for a month (50 or 100 mg twice daily) and had no side effects from it. I no longer take it daily but with my doc's approval, I have it on hand to use as a one-time bolus dose of 300 mg in the event of another afib episode that doesn't resolve spontaeously (the so-called "pill in pocket" self treatment). I havent used it that way yet. And yes, the idea makes me nervous.
I was first on 300mg a day as I had had a month of a fib episodes. I was then reduced to 150mg a day after my PFA. A few weeks later reduced to 100mg. At 7 weeks post ablation I asked to be taken off of this med. I had side effects the entire time, on the higher doses it was worse. Vision changes, shakiness, the tired but wired feeing. I was on it in combination with Diltaizem which I’m still on. I’m wearing a2 week monitor now and have a follow up on 4/9 and hoping to get off the meds. I was now given 150mg of Flecainide as a pill in the pocket in case of an episode.
Went into RVR ( tachycardia for 1.5 weeks) with a combination of 300mg per day and 100 metoprolol per day for a period of 2 weeks.( upped dosage by doctor to treat the tachycardia) RVR lead to pulmonary edema and acute heart failure. Not a pleasant experience. Now on amioderone 200mg per day, (insomnia/ headaches ) no metoprolol . Seeing electrophysiologist tomorrow.
I was on a maintenance regimen (not a pill in a pocket). 50mg of flecanide twice a day. It completely stopped my afib episodes for two years. No side effects. Then after two years of afib free life, afib came back much stronger. My implanted loop recorder reported it and my EP called me to IMMEDIATELY stop taking flecanide. He proposed an ablation ASAP which I did almost three month ago. Flecainide carries a FDA black box warning so do your research carefully.

@annaetherson Good luck! If you're heart is otherwise healthy, no obvious ischemia (due to blocked arteries), and you agree to an ablation, now is the time to do it. An ablation done well can keep your heart in rhythm for literally years. Ablations can often be time-limited as the disorder tends to progress silently. But yet another ablation, to the new area affected, can stop the arrhythmia again. I hope it works for you.
Very interesting, I have been on 50 MG twice a day along with metoporlo that I was told had to take with the flecanide.
I have symptoms but don't know id directly from flecanide.
Good conversation
I prescribed 150mg when my afib was uncontrolled in ER. It shot my bp to 180,was lethargic, and foggy, couldn’t do much. Too strong. Was lowered to 50 and given the instruction to drink 2 cups of water before taking it. Made a difference. Reduced episodes, but had an ablation 3 weeks ago and 50 flecainide maintenance for 3 mo. I will have a heart monitor then to see if I can get off Flecainide. It’s been 3 weeks and no afib or afutter episodes since. EP is highly skilled to do both. Am a happy camper

@shar28092 I was originally given it after a few episodes as a pill in the pocket. I was afraid also but did go into afib and took 150mg. It got me out of afib within 2 hours and really didn’t have side effects

I was on it for 2 weeks and had to stop due to severe reflux symptoms. I know of others on it who have had zero issues.
