Low-grade fevers weeks after COVID: Is this common with long COVID?

Posted by pdd @pdd, Feb 28, 2022

I was hospitalized for COVID and home since 2/3. On 2/24 started to have low grade fevers in the evening. Tylenol takes care of the fever. I am on home oxygen still but improving. Mobility and strength is better. Important to note immunosuppression due to cancer therapy a year ago. Lymphocytes are still depleted. Is this common with long COVID?

I am day 13 post Covid and have completed the course of paxlovid. I keep having fevers from 101.6-103.3 even though I am almost 2 weeks out from my first testing positive. I was wondering about rebound Covid but all my Covid tests are negative and my only symptom is fever. Thoughts?

I’m 2 months post covid. Tested negative but still getting persistent high fevers. Fevers are getting worse than when I had covid. My doctor keeps telling me to wait it out and that it’s long covid but it reached a point where I’m taking ibuprofen 4 times a day to keep the fever down.

Hello all, I’m glad to have found others experiencing similar issues (though I wish none of us needed to be here!). Otherwise healthy 40 year old male here, diagnosed with Covid for the first time in July 2022. Recovered (or so I thought) within about 10 days, with no more fever. About 2 weeks after that, caught another non-covid respiratory virus (RSV was going around at that point) which seemed to trigger all of this. I took about a month to “recover” from that, but the fevers never stopped. They would range from 99-103F (normal for me is 97ish), mostly beginning in the late afternoons and lasting through the night. I also started experiencing severe tinnitus and vertigo such that I couldn’t walk straight or safely drive. I also had extreme fatigue and low appetite. I started a diagnostic journey with my PCP, made two trips to the ER, saw an ENT multiple times, a vestibular specialist, and have been under the care of an infectious disease specialist as well. I’ve been poked, prodded, and scanned in every conceivable way, with no firm diagnosis. They’ve suspected everything from long Covid to lymphoma. My inflammatory markers were high at the start but slowly decreased over time. There was no evidence of active infection or disease of any kind. Though I never received a formal diagnosis, I believe it is long Covid (one doctor refused to diagnose as that, saying he felt it was just a “cop out” for doctors). From months 1-7 post-Covid, I ran fever most days. Some days, I felt like I was dying. Other days were ok. I worked a high stress job throughout, in person, but struggled. I took Tylenol and Advil for a while but eventually stopped, not wanting to damage my liver or kidneys from excessive use. For the last month or so, my fever had pretty much stopped. I was feeling better and like my old self and was thrilled, excited about going into spring and summer feeling good again. Now, I’ve caught another non-Covid respiratory bug (my kid has had it too), and the pattern has returned over the last few days. I’m devastated and can’t do another 6 month recovery period. I’m hoping this resolves. I’ve started taking vitamin C, and found that my vitamin D levels were critically low, so I’m taking that as well.

I as well have this persistent low grade fever. I tested positive for covid on 6/3/20. I was very ill for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks I returned to normal. On the 3rd week I started having intermittent low grade fever. My temperature now fluctuates, staying normal (98.2) for an hour or so then jumps to 99.0-100.2 for several hours . Today is day 57 of this intermittent low grade fever. When my temperature is normal I feel ok but still weak. When I have the low grade fever I feel very weak and is accompanied by an headache. I should also mention I have slight wheezing when I breathe in. Also when I take deep breaths I have a uncomfortable pressure on the right side of my chest almost as if something is lodged. I am 38 years old male, I have always been healthy and active. I hope this is temporary.

My mother is in India and she got Covid in April 2021 and she recovered in a month's time. 3 months post her recovery she ended up getting black fungus which was in very very early stage. We got it out very timely but since then she is having low grade fevers. Its been almost 2 years. Her fevers start early afternoon and then return to normal by evening without taking any paracetamol. She usually has a low grade fever of 98.6-99.2 and paracetamols dont help so she doesnt take them. Its very rarely that she experiences malaise. We have got so many tests and scans done to understand the cause of this intermittent low grade fever. The doctors feel its long covid but it keeps playing on my mind. Not sure what I can do to help her mentally.

I have the same thing. Low grade fevers post covid for about 6 months and now after any time I am exposed to viruses. I believe it to be an autoimmune response.

It’s been two years and four months since I got my first dose of Covid vaccine. Since then I have not had one good night of sleep I am suffering from severe pain at the injection site, my shoulder arm area, severe pain. I have not stopped sweating for over two years since getting the vaccine I suffer in pain day and night. Some days are better than others. However, when the pain is extremely severe, I find myself becoming suicidal. I have done a lot of medical imaging trying to see what is wrong with my shoulder with no one can pinpoint exactly what is wrong with me. I have done some blood test with no definitive answer. I continue to struggle, waking up at night because of the pain and severe sweating. I sleep alone because my bed is constantly soaked at night. Is there anyone out there that can help me? this condition has been a life altering. The quality of my life has decreased. I am no longer not fun mother anymore to my children and it is sad that they’ve had to watch me suffer like this. Is there any blood test that anyone has done that could be of value to me? Is there any doctor out there that can help me get the treatment that I may need to figure out what is wrong with me? I am desperate at this time. It’s been over two years of dealing with whatever this is. I’m tired of some doctors being dismissive and not taking the time to figure out what is wrong with me. Maybe the doctors just don’t know how to help me. Maybe the doctors I’m self don’t have a clue. I am silently suffering. How long can I go on like this?

I tested positive with Covid 7/4/2022. Fever of 101 , sinus congestion, cough. Sick for 3 weeks. The 2nd and 3rd week I had low grade fever 99.0-99.6 along with extreme fatigue. Went to ER, got blood work and chest xray. Doc said lungs were clear but I probably had lung inflammation. I returned to normal after 5 weeks then started exercising, then 6th week strenuous exercise. After that my lungs started hurting, difficult talking, extreme fatigue and constant low grade fever, max 99.8. Gets worse upon mental or physical exertion. This went on for 2 weeks, contacted my PCP. He told me I probably overexerted myself. Scheduled a lung pulmonary function test for Oct 5th. In the meantime I'm struggling daily with fatigue, lung pain, and low grade fever. The only thing that helped I noticed was when I took vitamin c my temp would go down. So I started taking larger amounts spaced throughout the day and all my symptoms started improving. I also take a multivitamin and sublingual vitamin B12. I'm continuing with the vitamin C until my lung function test and we'll see how that goes.

Thank you for the vitaminC tip, I’m going to go get a vitC shot asap! I recovered and tested negative from Covid 3 weeks ago and recovered from flu 2 weeks ago (got both back to back). The flu caused major muscle weakness that is still lingering but improving. Last week I started feeling weird in evenings and my temp is between 99.1 to 100.3. Now it seems to be every evening, take Tylenol and wake up just fine. I started exercising last week and wondering if the over exertion is causing me to feel sick again. I could barely keep my eyes open after 4pm and I feel winded and weaker than normal. Hoping this passes soon! This is my 3rd time with Covid and all three were fairly mild and easy except for the post Covid with this last one. I will up my vitamin c, d and b12. Thanks again!
