Dear kind community group

I have been suffering with excessive mucus coming from lungs with out coughing 3 months ago.
I find difficulty to expel continually accumulating phlegm coming from my lungs to throat
my case get worsen day by day and i feel recently short-breathing.
what make my case get worse is that i have not cough to help in expelling mucus out so it go to accumulate into lungs and airways.
I took montelukast and xyzal medicines for 2 weeks but i did not feel any better

have you found anything that helps ?

@julianned

Brief update – @alamogal635 my PH Study came back normal, as did an abdominal unltrasound. Unfortunately, the persistent mucus in my throat with no cough, upper abdominal pain, shortness of breath, and lethargy are all ongoing. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, as I have ceased all of my usual daily activities.

@julanned- You must be feeling totally lost at this point. I'm so sorry. It's horrible to feel hopeless. I have felt this many times in fighting my PTSD.
The PH tests for GERD is a very fussy one. What I mean by that is there are a lot of restrictions before you take it about what meds can be taken during the testing period, before and after. Did you follow them to a T?

You have not mentioned any blood work that you had, and you have mentioned that you had had infections before. Have they raised up their ugly head again?
I'm also wondering how long you took advair. Sometimes it takes a while for inhalers to kick in and sometimes is a trial to find those that are perfect for you. Have you tried others?

Hi Merry, thank you very much for commenting =) I can only imagine what you felt going through the PTSD…I will keep that in mind when I am feeling like complaining.
I did follow the restrictions to a T, mainly because I REALLY want an answer.
I took advair for about a month. I also tried singulair and flovent for about 2 months. Albuterol too.
I have had extensive bloodwork that addressed many angles. Everything from celiacs disease, several levels of rheumatological tests, hormone levels, infectious disease performed a lot of bloodwork too, even csf samples were taken. I had the typical allergy test, as well as 3 urine collections and some other bloodwork. I also tried flonaise and ceritizine.
The infection was staph and that was actually from one of the earlier sputum samples. At that time all of my lymphnodes were swollen too, which lasted for about three months, but they have returned to normal size now.
I also had an endoscopy, motiility test, barium swallow, and the PH test, and saw an ENT too who checked my sinuses.

Thanks!

I am perfectly all right, But much Phlegm is forming. have to swallow it the whole day. No cough. nose and breathing is fine.
after Endoscopy Doctor says due to some acid forming in chest phlegm is created.
I use to take breakfast and dinner in late evening. in the day time take 2-3 times only tea and drink some water only.

Kindly tell me how to keep clean my chest from Phlegm.

@sudhirkrgupta– Good morning and welcome to May Connect. If your doctor says that acid has built up then I suggest you see a GI doctor. Many symptoms like yours are caused by acid reflux or GERD. Also please read posts to see what others have done for this. Can you eat your dinner earlier?

Thanks Merry. I am working and it takes one hour to reach home after 6.30 PM. Also I take Tea after reaching home. So usually we all members of family take dinner at 10.00 PM.

@hishamhussain. I believe as you stated (I have been suffering with excessive mucus coming from lungs with out coughing 3 months ago.
I find difficulty to expel continually accumulating phlegm coming from my lungs to throat my case get worsen day by day and I feel recently short-breathing) you should follow up with what your doctor,s diagnostic advises are. And if you let him/her know that you are feeling strongly positive with his/her decision of taking Chest X-ray or CT scan that might help to decrease the confusion as X-Ray explains a lot of the case of the patient. You do not have to follow what I am saying here because it is not a prescription.. hope you feeling better soon and becoming well soon!

@sudhirkrgupta– I know that tea is a big deal with some cultures but is there any way that you can eliminate it because the later you eat the more of a chance for GERD?

@qurat123 Welcome to Mayo Connect. This must be very disturbing. When my son had a bad cough I was scared to death. My first question is what has your pedi said about this and his he on any medicines?

Hi all, unfortunately I'm back again. The Breo only seemed to help in the early parts of the summer. Since it started getting cold again recently, the "attacks" of mucus/phlegm have shot up again. I have noticed that when I talk, it seems to be a sort of trigger that starts a lot of phlegm to enter my mouth. It seems to coalesce in the top back area of my mouth, and slide to my uvula, where it activates my gag reflex. I'm not sure if any progress has been made here, but hopefully this added detail might trigger somebody who has had similar cases.

@tsedachalemu– Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. This is tough to go through as you will see in other posts and what others have to say. Did this start abruptly? Have you checked to see if you have Acid Reflux Disease (GERD)? Have you had any lung tests done? It might be a good idea to see a pulmonologist and a GI doctor.
Meanwhile here are a few links and some helpfull hints:

Dear @merpreb thank you for your constructive advise. Dear I think the my problem developed gradually not abruptly. I did not checked Acid Reflux Disease any lung tests done. Except I took only antibiotics.

REPLY

@tsedachalemu– Ah! GERD doesn't usually happen overnight and neither does Hiatal hernias if it didn't happen from an injury. If you are over 50, and overweight chances are pretty good of a hernia and GERD.
Did you take an antibiotic for an infection? Have you thought about being tested for your symptoms?
