Dr. wants me to get omalizumab (Xolair) for allergies/bronchial asthma
I am 69 severe nasal allergies that go into bronchial asthma moderate asthma on asthma med nasal sprays nette rinse live in ct climate change past couple of years has caused my allergies to get worse
Allergy dr past years wants me to take xolair shots
I am terrified to do this because of the epi pen being alone a lot having a event and not being able to use pen correctly or in time I also have severe anxiety
My pulmonary dr knows how I feel about this will offer any other alternative told me quote just keep epi pen near you if you can breathe just give yourself a shot that scared me even more please please any suggestions

dublin, I am now using AirSupra and getting great results. It opens up my lungs quickly.
Do rinse your mouth after use as in all steroid sprays for asthma, it can cause thrush in your mouth.
I empathize and I am praying for you.
My pulmonary dr and allergy dr keep pushing xolair shots knowing I am afraid of them and knowing my age medical history I really feel I am a candidate
Don’t over me anything else
I meant I really feel I am NOT a candidate due to my age medical history won’t offer anything else
In the beginning when I first saw pulmonary dr we tried a few things nothing helped because my real problem starts in my nose and allergies which lead to asthma
Xolair is not for me I cannot live my life with a epi pen at my age and “quote “ just take the epi pen if you can’t breathe I am alone during the day have extreme anxiety issues this is just terrifying me with my anxiety and the not caring attitudes received from these drs
Please speak with allergy clinic md. They do keep patients there for 30min - 1 hr after any allergy shots to monitor for any reactions. They will administer epi pen if needed and monitor for even longer. Good luck
Hi, @dubln - I moved your post talking about severe nasal allergies that go into bronchial asthma and your doctor's desire for you to take omalizumab (Xolair) shots to its own discussion:
-Dr. wants me to get omalizumab (Xolair) for allergies/bronchial asthma https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/dr-wants-me-to-get-omalizumab-xolair-for-allergiesbronchial-asthma/
I thought others might also want to talk about this topic specifically.
I personally was trying to get on omalizumab for my asthma and allergies because my aunt had had such good luck with those shots. However, my IgE was never high enough to warrant it.
I am afraid to get it because I am 69 high blood pressure and epi pen my other allergy dr told it’s does not help allergic allergy’s just severe asthma
I don’t know what to believe or what to do
@dubln - would you be most interested in suggestions of how to manage the omalizumab (Xolair) shots and any potential need to use the epinephrine injection, USP auto-injector (EpiPen)? Or would you prefer suggestions of alternative treatments that might help your severe nasal allergies that go into bronchial asthma?
I am taking a different biologic, Dupixent — one auto-inject shot every 2 weeks. H is able to give it to me because when he does, I get all of it (when I do it, invariably some of it leaks out as I don’t get the correct angle). I started in late November and for ME, it has really been a game changer.
@lisa asks great questions. I was told that it was possible to have my Dupixent administered but for ease of convenience, most patients preferred to have it administered by themselves or a loved one in their own home. Having the shot in an allergist or MD office or even a “minute clinic” type place might be something to consider if you prefer to be observed and safer, especially for your 1st few doses. Anyway, more for you to ponder.
