@dubln, I'm tagging a few members who also may be interested in this discussion @karenpacochca @jwool89 @pht1123 @sueinmn @staylorrn2000 for their suggestions with your doctor recommending omalizumab (Xolair) shots. They may have some input on your feeling terrified of being alone, needing to use an epinephrine injection, USP auto-injector (EpiPen) and not administering it correctly. Or, they may have some thoughts about treatment alternatives. @budisnothome also may have some ideas.

My son was on Xolair for about 9 months. He didn't have any problems with. Never needed the epi pen. I know it is a possibility, but I don't think a severe allergic reaction to it is that common. My son had a to do the first couple shots at the MD office to monitor for reactions before we were able to start doing it at home. Maybe that is an option for you.

I’m on xolair for autoimmune urticaria and am due for dose 5 next week. I also have mild asthma and a couple severe environmental allergies.

I have tolerated Xolair great. The first dose did make me tired-I took a nap, rare for me. After the other doses, I was fine. My immunologist (only one I could get appt quickly) didn’t even have me wait after first dose. I was surprised and asked. She said when it was new, they watched people and were concerned, but it’s rare to have issues and she only has people wait if they have history of anaphylaxis. I was still a bit leery and went to a restaurant for lunch the first couple times to have people around, but haven’t since then. I don’t have EpiPen.

One caveat…I am seeing another immunologist with a medical center next week. I’d made the appointment when flare started in Nov, but there was long wait. I’m not sure if they’ll be more cautious.

Hi,
Having asthma and anxiety both can be very frightening and difficult to deal with! I'm so sorry you have this. I know nothing about the medications you mentioned but one thing you might do is research the side effects of those medications. You can do a search for their side effects on the Mayo Clinic website. They are very reliable. That way, you will have an idea which medications may work well for you and which may not. Also search for asthma medications in general and their side effects. You could find some medications that you haven't had or that your doctor hasn't suggested.
You also might just say a prayer and ask for God's guidance. I'll say a prayer for you too.
Good luck!
PML
