dogs and 3 year post liver transplant

Dog sitting for my daughters 3 dogs for 6 days straight while she is on vacation. I am 3 years post liver transplant. the dogs are going in and out doggie door all day and coming back in house rubbing feces particles on couches and bedding from outside. also jumping and licking on me and I am 60 years old. My husband is 71 years old with a stoma hole in throat from previous Larynx Cancer. Is this safe?

A funny coincidence we are dog sitting for my sons two Goldens starting July 6th for a week when they go to a baseball tournament in CA. I am 69 and had a golden when I had my liver transplant 2.5 years ago. I was careful but all was fine. He just passed away and I hope to get another . I was careful with his clean up, never let him lick my face etc. . But there was never a problem. I have talked to other liver transplant patients who had dogs and never a problem. I had asked Mayo about it before my transplant as I am a big dog lover and they said no problem with dogs but use common sense. They did say however there was something about cats and I had to get some sort of cat vaccine before my transplant because one of my sons (who does not live with us) has a cat. Just don't let the dogs lick you. Should be nothing to worry about especially for just 6 days.

I'm a 60 year old male and it has been 2 years since my transplant. My wife and I hav 3 Shih Tsus we walk twice daily. They rarely defecate in the backyard but we pick up any feces as soon as we see it and they get their feet wiped whenever they come in from outside. Our three kid's families have a total of 4 dogs which they bring with them when they come to see us. The kid's dogs follow the same protocol as our dogs. I wash my hands so often I should buy stock in soap. Thus far we haven't had any problems.

Hey, Thanks to all of you for sharing here about your doggy buddies! I am happy that you can enjoy time with your lovely critters:-)
I am not a dog, cat, or pet person, and I avoid going to someones home where there is an animal. My biggest fear is to hear the pet owner say, "Oh, He won't hurt you, he just wants to lick you."
