Does azithromycin help my copd?

I will ask again. Does azithromycin help with COPD and is long-term on this drug recommended. Which I have been on it for almost a year. Thank you.

@mustang1234 hi yes I have been on Arithomcyin for 6 years. I take 500mg 3 times a week Mon, Wed and Fri. Since taking this I have not had any aspirations or trips to the hospital. I'm on many other meds also but this one has kept my sinuses and lungs in check for infections. Hope this helps.

@masscopd thank you. I’ve been on it for almost a year. I just read so much negative stuff about it. And how dangerous it is. But I’m on the same thing as you three times a week Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Thank you. I was just worried of all the side effects. Even says you can drop dead. I also take prednisone once in a while, not very often. Maybe three times a year for 10 days.

Most definitely Azithromycin helps with our COPD. Google the Gold Standard for care for COPD patients and you will see the benefits and statistics there.

My pulmonologist at Mayo put me on it for the first time last Jan-March. I have emphysema + bronchiectasis and I don’t suffer horribly on a daily basis. My issue is when I catch a virus it always turns to infection and I am really sick for a month. I didn’t get one infection during that time frame. My plan this year is to take it Nov-Feb as college kids inevitably bring home viruses over the holidays. Then during allergy season in the spring I do well on a biologic.

@mustang1234 think that is just for flareups not daily use.

@mustang1234 I listen to the side effects. I took it for about 2 weeks and my heart rate increased on a regular basis so I decided not to take it any more.
