Does anyone nebulize Budesonide and Albuterol?

Posted by pled @pled, Apr 3, 2023

I nebulize 3ml Albuterol and 2ml Budesonide twice daily. My pulmonologist told me I could just mix the two in the nebulizer cup, but the directions for Budesonide state that it should not be mixed. I am wondering which one I should do first, or does it matter? Thanks for your help.

Just joined the Support Group for COPD. Not sure how to ask questions but here goes. My treatment has been changed from Trelegy once daily to the following: Symbicort - 2x day, Ohtuvayre/nebulizer - 2x/day, Dupixent Injection every two weeks. Anyone on this treatment regimen? It is a drastic change for me. I also have glaucoma in addition to COPD and worry about the impact of these medications on the glaucoma. Very anxious to hear from you.

According to NJH guidelines bronchodilator comes first ( albuterol xopenex, symbicort)then comes inhaled mucolytic ( saline pulmazyne) then inhaled steroid such as Flovent, pulmicort and then long lasting medication and finally inhaled antibiotics always LAST. This is what I was presented with by a RT at NJH.

@deweyman40 This is a complicated question. I'm assuming from your list that you have COPD, is that correct?
There is some overlap in the purposes of these medications, so your pulmonologist should tell you the correct order of use. Were they all prescribed by the same doctor? If not, if I were in your situation, I would request a comprehensive medication review to see if there are potential interactions or side effects from using all of them.
If it is impossible to get in touch with the prescribing doctor, perhaps you can ask your pharmacist for advice.
Do feel comfortable sharing your diagnosis so we can direct you to the best group to answer your questions?

@guslogan I also have COPD and glaucoma. Was taken off Trelegy and put on Breztri, Ohtuvarye and Dupixent. Initially was put on Symbicort but changed to Breztri after a couple of weeks. Started with eye problems(redness and broken blood veins) In a few weeks started itching on back and chest and a rash on my chest. Since all meds were started within a short period it is difficult to determine what I am reacting to. So, started with decreasing the nebulizer treatment to once a day. Itching and rash are better, cannot tell breathing is much better. The one improvement has been voice volume. See the pulmonologist (will also have pulmonary function test) on 1/30.
