does anyone have seborrheic keratosis

Posted by peggyn @peggyn, Jul 10, 2023

Does anyone have this. The derm. dr. doesn't do anything for them. They are a eyesore and I have them in several places. Some are very large. Is there a natural remedy that anyone may know about?
They are those scaly patches.

Many of us have seborrheic keratoses. They are very common and more so in individuals with fair skin types.
Heredity, friction, sun damage and other environmental factors seem
to play a role in their development. Removal in some areas may be necessary if they become irritated.
Since they are benign they may not be covered by insurance if they are considered a cosmetic issue.
Good idea to get them checked yearly by your dermatologist so that more serious pigmented lesions
are not overlooked.
They can be removed with least chance of scarring by
freezing with liquid nitrogen spray. Newer treatments can be more involved.
I’m getting my check up in September.

I am the fair, light skinned person you described and I get them ALL the time, everywhere that has seen the sun in my 69 years of life. Easily removed by freezing with no scar. My dermatologist said they can remove 5 every six months without charge when I get my skin check. Just tell them it really bothers you. If your doctor won't remove them I'd change doctors. They all keep a bottle of "freezing solution" in their offices. Good Luck!

Liquid nitrogen does wonders.

I will be 83 tomorrow and have had a multitude of seborrheic keratoses for close to 50 years. In 1992, one large growth on my back I thought was a SK turned out to be a melanoma for which I went through two surgeries, 30 days apart. The surgeon recommended I get these other red bumps I had diagnosed and they turned out to be Grovers Disease. GD often flares up and itches a lot but mine did not until 2007. It then itched for 18 months until a Derm prescribed Gabapentin which stopped the itch for 13 years but the itch started up again about 22 months ago and hasn't quit. Of course, the SKs continued to multiply and get larger. I'm sure they itch at times as well. Derms tend to shy away from freezing them off unless they are in areas that could cause other problems. Two years ago a Derm surgically removed a very large one which took a couple months to heal. No fun. If you want to clear out a swimming pool, go swimming without some sort of shirt on.

I was told they are all on my scalp, it's awful and I'm a picker which does not help. I had liquid nitrogen once did nothing, now I was given a solution called Fluocinonide. My problem is I can't stop scratching and picking. Any one else have this problem. My sister also has them on her scalp.

I doubt it's free of charge, they charge Medicare. While they chare Medicare a huge amount (mine was always $1500 to $3000) they only get paid a much smaller amount. I have and have had numerous SKs.
