Does anyone have any experience with MEIBO (PF) drops for dry eyes?

Posted by trishaanderson @trishaanderson, Jan 11, 2025

I've tried many suggestions from several ophthalmologists for my dry eyes, which started after Cataract surgery.
My current ophthalmologist at Mayo Clinic has suggested Meibo drops. She sent the Rx to BlinkRX, and with my insurance, it's $627!

Mine is called Nova Tears

@tqrusty , I’m sure it’s fine but I just feel uneasy about using an eye product that’s from another country.

You can do what I do. Travel to London and go to Boots pharmacy. Buy Hycosan Shield eye drops over the counter for approximately $20. It’s the same as Miebo. If not UK, then go to any EU Country buy either Evo Tears or Nova Tears. All are 100% Perfluorohexyloctane, and all over the counter. The round trip will be nice for you and still be less than your R/X here in U.S. Coming back in Our Country, put bottles in checked luggage, spread bottles our among your clothing.

@maldridge51 it’s all fine to use, as they are sealed nicely and have expiration dates on boxes, however, it has become harder to ship into U.S. with tariffs now. Easier to fly over now and buy.

@embvub Unfortunately, they no longer carry it. I tried ordering it from the German Amazon site instead, they supposedly sent it, and then after a month it was marked as delivered but I received nothing.

It’s just as well, because Miebo/Evotears has done nothing for my dry eyes. I’m so disappointed.

@celia16 I feel uneasy buying an eye product from THIS country (USA) lately! My ophthalmologist recommended eye drops from Germany, but since I can only get them (it seems, but I haven't researched) on Amazon, I only got them a few times (I liked them, though!) because I do not like to shop on Amazon.

Thanks everyone for the good tips. I would love to fly to Europe! i’m going to try Meibo again at some point. And, I want my tear duct plugs replaced.

My insurance would not cover Meibo but they do cover Xiidra drops. My ophthalmologist says they are similar. Xiidra works very well for me. Before I started using it my eyes burned and blurred my vision off and on all day. It never happens now. I am very pleased. Good luck.

My ophthalmologist gave me a sample bottle and it worked beautifully. But, on my perscriptian plan, they wanted $60 for it and I wouldn’t pay that. I use an over the counter drop and have no problems.

I use meibo and I love it. You can ask them to give you a cash price which for me is $80. If you can, have someone watch you instill the drops to make sure you’re getting just one drop, because it’s a weird bottle. you can easily go through it too quickly if you’re inadvertently putting in several drops each time. I find the bottle lasts slightly longer than 30 days. Totally different mechanism from Xiidra, which I also take.
