Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

Oh bless your heart. I live in Florida so I wear flip-flops all the time with a cloth lining on them. I dread traveling anywhere because then I would have to wear shoes. So I rarely travel. I wish I could help. Just wanted to say that

Dear @artscaping, I have myriad foot problems and ONLY wear Hokas !! I find them light, roomy for tender toes and supportive. And my orthotics fit in.
Have you visited a store to try on some pairs?
I did one time, bought one, and ever since have ordered that size online. They always fit!
I hope you find your happy feet!

Good afternoon @yellowdoggirl Thanks for responding with your experience. I have been to the shoe store where I tried the HOKA shoes and bought my first pair. They are extremely light as you mentioned. I also feel more supported and they reach the top of my arch. The lady there told me that even though I do not run anymore, "except from doing kitchen duty", the shoe that fits is the best choice. She also told me that women can wear men's shoes as long as they adjust the width down. So....I don't have to look for only the shoes that are available in wide widths. Now I am anxious to have my TKR so I can try them out. The crazy lady being anxious for surgery because of new shoes.

May you have peace and ease today.
Chris

My body worker calls shoes like Hoka “coffins for your feet.” She and I both feel that getting your feet and toes as close to the ground as possible and therefore able to do the navigating for you is best. Let those toes work! Don’t keep them encased in an ivory tower!

When your feet are numb and unable to feel what's under them, it can be unnerving to step on something and cut through your foot without realizing it. Then looking around to see where in the world that blood is coming from....been there done that, not going to leave my feet unprotected again. I guess it just depends on your perspective and how well you take care of your feet.

Thanks, John. I get it. Guess it depends on what type of neuropathy you’ve got.

I am amazed each time I read a post and realize I’m not alone with experiencing this unknown neuropathy. I too have lived, in 5 short years, with seeing blood across floors in my house and taking time to realize it was coming from my toe.. or taking socks off and seeing a big blood stain. I saw other posts about not feeling feet on brake and gas pedals, fears that driving has us more focused on foot position than looking at the road.
The membership here is hitting on so many common experiences with me, and some experiences that are thankfully not in common with me. I appreciate learning as much as I have from folks in this forum, those cheering us and trying to keep us positive, and you and the other mentors for trying to keep topics organized and providing links to helpful resources.
Thanks so much for your help and of course feel free to move post to best position! Debbie
