Does anyone feel old and useless with age?

Posted by sally12345 @sally12345, Sep 13, 2023

Hi, I'm almost 64.. I'm feeling old and useless. My strength isn't good anymore. Like it used to be mainly side effects of meds. My health is poor with cvsd. Osteoporosis, poor circulation, hearing , eyesight, you name it's going. I always took care of myself. Now I've gotten older and everything's wrong, my grandkids don't a want me around and they are little still. No friends to talk with or do things with. Why is it we spend our lifetime taking care of family. Loving friends to end up , old and tired. Useless.

Seems in our 70's cancers hit --I am 74

Was lucky i think as I chased Drs in 2016&17 until they sent me to melb for tests & then of course they found cysts in pancreas & Alfred Hospital removed them & spleen in oct 2022.
Shit health since & now lung disease grrrrrr
Better than alternative tho

Wow you must live out in the bush when you say they sent you to Melbourne for test only to find out the bad news & now after your big opp now you have lung cancer. But then you say it better then the alternative tho ????
In my case there is no quire for my Cancer and that it the only thing they can do is help stop it from goin from my Liver & Pancreas to other parts of my body because once that happens it all over red rover. & if that happen well it wont bother me I'm ready for ever up the road head.

Hi there
You are NOT "useless" --anyone who isn't lying flat on a bed unable to do anything fir themselves has at least one thing they can share with another --which will help self talk.
I am in same boat--moved to a rental 135 km from city i lived in to use public transport so i can talk to strangers instead of no one --how desperate is that ??
Anyone that sits next to me is going to be talked to as i have no family that aren't "busy"

please please go to a community house ( thats what we call them in australia )
You are saying what at least 50% of over 60's say--ppl don't seem to live as long or are falling apart 5 minutes after we hit 70--nor value their friendships. It is sooo annoying isn't it ??
xxxx feel free to reply & sook i do it A LOT xxx

yes i did
i was in sheppsrton--2&1/2 hrsxto melb & for 3 yrs gp's were treating me for indigestion, doing tests on gall bladder, liver, looking for clots because i had a stroke in my 40's & have diverticular disease so of course saying must be diverticulitis need to change diet--in other words--no flippibg idea just guessing !!

mm it was better to have a Distal panceotomy and Splenectomy that Pancreatic cancer--thats most painful according to nurses at the Alfred hospital lol
Now i cough & gag and have 7cm hernia along scar but i can expect 5 or more years of coughing haha.
Like yourself i just dont care now--also 2out of 3 of my younger bros died at 20yrs old & my 1st born & a lot of friends so I'm expecting a bit of a crowd on the other side.
It is what it is true ??
I go to cinema's regularly, mcg for footy when well & drives in the bush

Whats your choice of activities for brain break ?
