Does an ascending aortic aneurysm just go away?

They don't just go away. There is a variation in measurements. Also, 4.0 is more accurately a dilation. 4.5 to 4.6 is the point an ascending a aorta is referred to as an aneurysm, but the terms are still often used interchangeably.

Depending on what imaging was used for your initial diagnosis. I was diagnosed earlier this year with a 3.4cm aaa on an ultrasound. Followed up a month later with a MRA which showed no aneurysm.( Normal caliber of 1.9cm) Going to follow up in a year or so with a CTA to cover all imaging aspects. Could have been an imaging mishap or you can never rule out the power of God!!! I will take either one of them right now!!!!

Growth comparisons are best done by using the same modality - echo to echo, gated CT to gated Ct, contrast to contrast. They each see the structure a little differently. Also the readers may not have measured at exactly the same location.

Shery75: You are very fortunate. Two years ago my Dr. (GP) thought he detected a problem (during annual physical) with my aorta and assumed it might be an aneurysm. To hospital for an ultrasound which turned out to be not one but two. A root of 4,5 and an Ascending Thoracic Aorta Aneurysm 4.2. I otherwise was in very good health but spent a year trying to get into Mayo Clinic in Arizona (I live in Alaska). I think they avoid anyone over 85 with scheduling problems. At my next physical my GP told me to schedule another ultrasound but this time of my abdomen. I thought that odd but he is the Dr.,,,,,All he said was the results were negative. This years physical I brought up the aneurysm and he said again it was negative. What he did not tell me is that he had called the hospital and changed the order from ultrasound to C. T. Scan with contrast BUT OF THE CHEST not the abdomen. If you followed this you now realize as I do, that I never had an aneurysm; that the tech doing the original ultrasound completely misread what he saw and my Dr. did not explain this until two years later. Stress,
complete break down of my routine, no travel etc. etc. We had to go to the insurance billing write-up to confirm what My Dr. knew one year ago. The C.T. Scan with contrast found no aneurysm and no root aneurysm. So, that's why I say you are lucky, you found out while your "aneurysm" ???? was still in the dilation stage.
