Diastolic heart failure want off meds

Posted by jules72 @jules72, Feb 21, 2021

I am 48 nearing 49 very soon have a 9 and 30 yr old sons and married to a manchild lol Yes that's not a typo lol prob why my heart is in bad shape having a child at 39. Wasn't suppose to be possible but he's here so on with it right! I have diastolic heart failure and I'm on coreg 12.5mgs 2×day he wants me taking 10 mgs of amlodapine as well but I don't. Also wants me on something for prediabetes can't remember name. I have never had a prob with sugsr until after being on coreg and one blood test came back out of range by 1 point. I know this sounds crazy prob but I don't wanna be on any of this medicine I think it does more harm other places. Has anyone tried to do this? Also my BP gets up to 200/100 at times without but I have noticed fish oil helps if I take it 3 times a day but still not normally range. Thank you

Hi @davisphoh2, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I wanted to connect you with other people who have been on the medication, Coreg, so you will see I moved your post to a discussion regarding a-fib, heart and Coreg. I think it's interesting that you are willing to travel to Columbus to see your doctor that did the ablation.

Have you talked to your current PA on what they recommend for follow up?

I plan on talking to them in the morning but I have had some issues even getting an appointment with this Covid stuff going on. They don't want to see people like it used to be before Covid. The doctor that I was given was ill or something and everytime I called for a follow-up visit prior to this episode was met with delay. Dr. Gemma was good with what he practiced and he listened unlike the people that are giving my service at the moment.

Hi @davisphoh2 Hi and welcome yes thought times with this covid issues. I did take coreg for many years and it helped me along with other meds with my issue of Ventricular Tachycardia or VT for short but it’s a lot different than AFIB in it’s affect on the Heart. But one positive not is the ablation you had worked well for many years so it sounds like that doctor that did it is a keeper. I had more that a few ablations and was lucky to get 2-3 year’s out of them before needing another.
As for coreg I went on that so long ago when my issues started I don’t remember if they gave me problems at first but over the years and many different meds I would usually get used to them. So maybe see if you can reach a doctor by phone or telemed if that’s an option. Maybe a ramp up to the dose your on may help or another beta blocker med may work better. Just some thoughts.
I prey you have success possibly to reach you doctors office and if I can help please ask.
Have a Blessed Day
Dana
