Hello @vjo16 and welcome to Mayo Connect. As I see that this is your first post on Connect, please share as you are comfortable doing so, a bit about yourself. Do you also have a high calcium score?

I look forward to getting to know you. Will you post again?

I will be posting often I'm sure, I have had problems with high calcium in the past causing massive kidney stones, they was surgically removed and I had a severe kidney infection after from the stent coming slightly dislodged. The whole process is painful. I'm hoping it never comes to that again but I'm terrified it will

Hello, at first I thought you were talking about your calcium bloodwork. I do realize you’re talking about your calcium score on a heart scan. Mine is 23 which was taken a couple weeks ago so I’m not in the range. Most of the people were discussing.

I’m thinking some of my symptoms now are related to menopause, which is really not discussed much and now that I’m 69 years old it’s very difficult to find someone that will give me hormone replacement therapy. I might have to call the Mayo Clinic and discuss it with them where all the experts are.

Hello @vjo16
I appreciate you providing a bit more detail about your current health issues related to menopause. On Mayo Connect, we have a Women's Health support group where many are discussing the problems of menopause. Here is a link to the discussions where this is mentioned,
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/womens-health/?search=Menopause#discussion-listview
If you are interested in a consultation at a Mayo Clinic facility, here is the link that will give you information on obtaining an appointment at Mayo Clinic, http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63.

Are you currently having heart symptoms such as heart rate problems (racing heart, etc.) or are there other symptoms of menopause that you are trying to address? I'm also wondering if you have taken hormone replacement therapy in the past?

Hello @miasmama23

It sounds like you need to be posting in the Connect discussion about hyperparathyroidism, rather than the Heart & Blood Health group. Here are links to discussions on hyperparathyroidism, where members discuss this type of high calcium level:
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/diabetes-and-endocrine-problems/?search=hyperparathyroidism#discussion-listview
Here is some information about hyperparathyroidism from Mayo Clinic's website, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hypoparathyroidism/symptoms-causes/syc-20355375

Do you know what your Parathyroid Hormone Level is? (This would be determined from a blood test.) Have you had an ultrasound your neck or a CT scan of the neck to see if any nodules can be found on the parathyroid glands?

Same exact issue with me as well. Dr. wants my LDL below 70 so increased statin from 20 mg to 40 mg. Calcium score was 1100. Currently taking 81 mg aspirin, fish oil and turmeric daily as well. I am 61 and exercise daily. Seems to me the medical profession is not getting to the root cause of the plaque. My research indicates that insulin resistance forces the LDL "bullet" molecules to penetrate the artery wall when they can not longer be processed by the liver.

Hello @trizee2293 and welcome to Mayo Connect. It sounds like you are taking the medications needed to treat this issue. How often will your doctor be following up with you to see how effective the treatment is for your situation?

Is there a history of heart problems in your family?

I am 58 and very physically fit. No symptoms of heart disease but I have a terrible family history. My mom is diabetic and had quadruple bipass and a stroke. I am trying to avoid the same problems as I age
