Dental cleaning postponed after coronary stent placement
I had a MI on May 3, stent placed May 5, and second stent placed June 19. Went in for my ususal 6 month dental cleaning appointment this week and was surprised to hear that cleaning has to be postponed for 6-12 months after a stent procedure. I had no idea! No one ever mentioned this might be an issue. The hygienist wasn't sure but looked it up and sure enough, with a drug eluding stent, you need to wait. I certainly will check with the cardiologist. But I thanked the hygienist for bringing this to my attention.

RE: Dental cleaning... I contacted the cardio office and received a reply. Apparently , the waiting period is up to the dentist's office and has not been an issue with previous patients. No comments about bacteria etc, only the aspirin and Plavix I'm taking. And no antibiotics are needed after a stent placement. I'm supposed to see the cardiologist in January, so I'll ask again. (I've been seeing the PA at the office) But maybe I'll just postpone the cleaning until June 2027.
It's surprising to see all the different opinions from different doctors.
